Just imagine if The Dallas Cowboys were caught.

It would be on every channel, 24 hours a day for at least two years.

The cheating was bad enough. The cover up was really bad. The way they went after Walsh, who apparently is the only guy associated with the organization that could tell the truth, was downright dispicable. And that includes Kraft, the guy who everybody claims is a 'classy' owner.

Yep, another guy we were told was 'classy' throughout his tenure in SF.

The funny thing is that I was in SF during one of those NFC Championship games...

The Chronic made a point to say that Debartolo was the driving force about the good things about SF while Jerry promoted big hair, intolerance and everything wrong with the NFL...

Thank God we won that game...

The reason he asked this question was because the SportsNation show did a poll of "who is your favorite sports team?" Not just football, but all sports, and the Cowboys won. Apparently asking America who is their favorite sports team, and getting a response that you don't agree with means that America is wrong. It is all about the wording of the question. I had a guy at work argue with me because I said Jamarcus Russell sucks. He said the o-line was the reason he is playing so bad. So he asked another guy if an o-line is bad, how will a qb play, and the guy said like garbage. Then I asked the same guy, what do you think about Jamarcus Russell, he quickly said the man was garbage. It's the same thing Van Pelt was doing. Change the wording of the question around to get the desired answer.

I agree, although I think if Russell had decent coaching he could be a really good QB.

His O-Line and WR's are probably the worst in the league. Any QB needs *something* from those units to do anything productive.

Put it this way, if the Cowboys were able to pick up Russell for very cheap I would hope they would take it, if anything because of his potential, he could be a great backup and there's the chance we could have the sweet problem of having 2 very good QB's on our roster.

Bottom Line Guy here...

Most Jersey sales...

Case Closed...

Not even figuring the fact of game ratings...

There's a reason the Cowboys rank high...

Forget the decent coaching. What he really needs is a decent trainer. "Umm, hey coach, I worked out this offseason like you said. I'm down to a slim 292 lbs. Sooo, I get a cookie, right?" First he needs the desire to be better, then any decent coaching will get him to tap into some of his potential.

Russell looks really bad at times but if you put him on the Boys and Romo on the Raiders... the results would probally shock some ppl!

Elaborate please

From my memory, this scrapes the surface...

At the time it was illegal to hide your franchise under a corporate umbrella...

DeBartolo did just that... he was fined a measly $500,000

I think the biggest thing was a certain player, and I can't remember his name, got a huge offer from a team. SF wanted to talk to him.

Eddie DeBartolo , Sr, had him land in Ohio (where he lived) and he took the league minimum for that year...

The DeBartolos are notorius for paying under the table...

Here's the difference for me.. besides all the ratings and sales stuff.. Sure the Steelers have a lot of fans that fill opposing stadiums and are probably louder than Cowboys fans.. they are one of the few fanbases that are audible during Cowboys home games when they play in Dallas, but having a lot of fans that like a team is not what makes a team "America's Team" ... It's having a lot of fans who like the team in every city you go to and everyone else hate the team. The fact that the fanbase is still so large and the team so polarizing when they haven't won anything in 13 years is just more evidence of the fact.

It's kind of sad how ESPN tries to rehash this debate every year. To their credit, they always try to add some twist to make it "new."

As someone else said, it's more of a nickname to me than a "title." I don't think we're automatically entitled to be forever known as "America's Team" if you interpret it as a literal title. But as a nickname, it's absolutely ours; like someone else said, you can't start calling our defense the Steel Curtain or the Ravens' D the Monsters of the Midway.

However, if we are to argue over whether someone deserves it more than us as a "title," I think even then we still win. The interest this franchise draws is unparalleled, as shown in this thread.

He started off by saying that he grew up as a Cowboys hater in the D.C. area. Dude has issues with the Cowboys.

This is actually funny because then you'll get some corporate stooge stating that 'ESPN does not hate the Cowboys', but they have had so many of their employees state it on public radio waves that they do indeed hate the Cowboys.

So, ESPN doesn't hate the Cowboys, just the gigantic portion of on-air talent that have publically stated that they do indeed hate the Cowboys.
