Any given Sunday........

The Cowboy's balance including coaching is fragile enough to lose.

I blame coaches and players for all loses I also give them credit they are 6-3 on the season better than a lot of teams, so if you go that rout then a lot of coaches are doing much worse at their jobs than ours.

There actually is a quality assurance program in place, mandated by the owners.

Every week, each team compiles a tape of calls that they think were blown, and that and a narrative are sent to the league office.
The director of officiating goes over all such complaints, and issues a response to each team. In some cases, an official is demoted or removed.

Big brother is always watching.

Whose watching big brother?

Yes, credit them for putting together twice as many wins as losses, and getting some real superlatives on offense.

We can't suddenly be marching on VR with torches and pitchforks after losing two in a row, especially given where we were last year.

I agree. I get upset with loses as much as the next guy however looking at overall picture right now I think this season is far from over. Cowboys need to weather this storm, go out win this upcoming game and get into our bye so we can get some guys back and closer to 100%.

Nope, but I sure haven't thought, "Hmmm…as crappy as this defense is, that Barry Church is a cornerstone and we should build around him."

At some point very soon, the defense needs to be upgraded, and IMO, his position is one that needs upgrading ASAP.

IMO, he does nothing more than fill a spot on the team, and you can never expect him to make a positive play in the passing defense.

Well I don't think anyone ever said he'd be the cornerstone of this defense. That's Sean Lee who btw hasn't seen the field AT ALL this year.

That being said, Barry Church isn't a liability out there and he's the least of our concerns. Before I look at Church I concern myself more with our inconsistent and lack of pass rush and our coverage of our linebackers and corners than I am Church.

Why would anyone EVER need proof that it doesn't happen? Because football is a billion dollar sport and one missed-call can mean the life and death of an organization. Just take a look at the "tuck" rule. You think the Raiders would be in the position they are now if it weren't for that? One blown call like that can take destroy an organization completely and turn up the fortunes of another team.

Its not absurd especially when there is no quality assurance requirements or even a checking system in which to make sure such things like this never happens. If there is no accountable for refs to make sure they do their job, I can guarantee you that they will find ways to game the system. Don't think for a second that some refs DON'T have their favorites or that they will be honest in their job. If there is no checking system or accountability that is ripe for cheating and exploiting the system as it is now.

Very creative -- I love it but this is just a chatroom, not a political check and balance organization for sports.

Yes, but that's true with any team.

The level of play likely will decline with key injuries because the replacement just isn't as good as the starter, and the chemistry with the unit is destroyed, as well.

We now have 2 replacements on the OL, and the LB group is without their leader and has 2 others dinged up. Add a replacement quarterback to the mix, and it's not surprising that the 'Boys performance suffered. Remember, these units have a fairly fragile new-found cohesion which can easily deteriorate when removing just a few key components.

Arizona matched up well, given our altered roster, and the results should not have been shocking.
We all hoped Weeden would be smarter and more accurate, and that the other subs would step up, but this is a very young team, without the established veteran core that might lend more continuity.

Regarding play-calling, Weeden wasn't given more than the coaches thought he could handle, and that simple game plan was just too predictable.

I would agree with what you're saying. I don't think the Cowboys are pretenders -- but simply have been overly hyped by some media moguls as "the #1 team in the NFL." Now, THAT'S pretentious. We were caught with our pants down in circumstances we couldn't control. It happens to many teams hampered with injuries. Us as well. I acknowledged as much in my posts to others in this chatroom.
