FRISCO -- The Dallas Cowboys have made a move to help their pass-rush that produced only three quarterback pressures in the season opener Sunday against the New York Giants.

The Cowboys on Tuesday signed former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Ryan Davis to their active roster, a source said. The roster move will become official Wednesday. Davis was one of the players who worked out for the Cowboys on Tuesday.

Davis had 11 sacks over the last four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 3.5 sacks in 14 games last year with Jacksonville and 6.5 sacks in 2014 in 16 games with the Jaguars.

Davis becomes the Cowboys' sack leader now. His 11 is more than any other player on the Cowboys' roster. The previous leader for the Cowboys was cornerback Orlando Scandrick with 10.5.

Slightly less Jag-y than the rest of our JAG DT/DE experiment

Swanson the CB which means our coverage just got worse overall because we only have 4 true corners which means Jones will probably play more corner and Wilcox will play more FS

Bite your tongue!

In reality, they were already playing Wilcox too much if Sunday was any indication.

Meanwhile, Mayowa records a sack and the $80 million dollar savior (Vernon) went 0-fer. (but he played the run really really good).

Troll nation won't go near that one this week, but it's there.

Vernon had a better all around game than Mayowa.

Having said that, I still wouldn't have paid Vernon whatever the hell he got.

Thanks, saw it on a different thread. I am surprised one of the Smith's did not get dropped.

Vernon also played a lot more snaps than Mayowa. Don't get me wrong, Vernon is the more rounded player but the Summer's Eve crew wailed all summer long about the fact that the Giants were selling out to improve the defense and Jerry sat on his hands. Now, it's only one week but the pay to output ratio fell in Mayowa's favor this week (let's be honest Vernon was brought in to collect sacks, specifically against that guy that he "dominated" last year in Miami who happens to play LT for the Cowboys). Again, It's just one week, but for the rolling tally so far, we got more bang for our buck.

We'll see how that continues to play out.

Good post and rebuttal, BTW.

Well Jerry did sit on his hands after claiming pass rush was our biggest need.

But Vernon wouldn't have been the direction I went in given the money involved.

I think Mayowa is a nice player. Dont know of he is a starter. He has a good blend of athleticism and hustle which means he could be very hustle rusher like Jack Crawford has been the last couple. It will be interesting over the next couple games if he plays with more consistent technique. Him and Crawford are probably competing for a starting job considering Lawrence can play both side of the line

Fair enough and it's hard to disagree (so I won't) but for the money spent, so far (again it's just a week, I get that), Jerry's money was better spent.

Yep. I think Mayowa is a good situational guy with some upside to be more than that. But he also has the real possibility of being a complete JAG in this league.

So in beating this dead horse, I would have gladly signed him like we did, but then protected myself by bringing in a vet or two at DE. For example, Mario Williams. Williams would have played opposite Mayowa and then Lawrence when he came back. Then in pass rush situations, you could have kicked Williams inside, and brought Mayowa in or even Gregory if he gets his act together.

Front office took way too many risks at DE IMO.

Williams would have been my move

Very little long term money commitment and a feard rusher
