SDogo's 1st ever Draft Prep Thread

it makes me laugh how people think if we move down it'll all fall into place, like 31 other teams arent allowed to move up/down and target the same guys.

I could see why you'd think that, if you believe each team only targets one player per round and their draft falls apart if someone else takes that player.

I was told #17 and possibly #60.

#60 ain't enough to move down eight spots in the first round, IMO.

We need to stay in the top 13. My preference would be to stay put.

No doubt Count.
If you aren't fluid and flexible in the draft, you could be in real trouble quickly.

So why did the Pats let him walk?
They wanted him back, but also had an up and coming kid they didn't mind turning to.

Nothing at all wrong with Jurazsek as a coach. He is not here because of health, not lack of duty.

And there's not a single person in this thread that I've seen say anything negative about Juraszek. Everyone was simply praising Woicik.
You replied directly to Chocolate Lab's comment about Bill Parcells praising Juraszek as a "good S&C" with the snarky "Parcells is long gone".

Of course, you meant nothing by that, right? Please.

That is just kind of the mentality around here sometimes when someone leaves. They suddenly become a scrub who didn't know what they were doing and their replacement instantly becomes better and we meant to do it all along.

About a year ago, if anyone suggested Juraszek was a problem, they would been shouted down--probably by the very poster who challenged you on your comment.

Woicik is the best in the business and always has been. But that status doesn't say anything about Juraszek. We definitely improved, but again, it was not a case of getting rid of the trash. We actually got extremely fortunate, but I do not see much evidence we made a conscious decision to get rid of Juraszek for poor performance. It is sort of like cutting Romo for health reasons and picking up Tom Brady.
I kind of disagree with you on this. It has been pointed out several times over the years that Juraszek, along with Jerry Jones, is the one constant to 1996 and the last post season win before 2009. He had already taken some heat.

I still think he's a fine coach. Rowdy arrived in 1996 too.

I blame him.

I agree with you. I know this is what they have offered so far. We haven't taken it though. They may need to sweeten the deal and they easily could. They have 3 of the top 33 picks. I am sure they think they can package 28 and 33 to get higher in round 1 and 17 and 60 to get near or into the top 10. A 14-2 team with very few holes to fill can afford these types of moves easily so they might have to sweeten that deal, say swap one of their 3rds for our 5th or something like that.

Yeah.
Our 9th overall + 71st
For the Pats 17th, 33rd and 125th

that would do it, though I'm not saying to do that unless a bunch a great players were falling.

I have no doubt in my mind that we want to trade down to acquire more picks.

I also have no doubt that there are many teams anxious to trade up for the player they want.

But, I really wouldn't be surprised to see us unable to trade down. There seems to be so many teams that want to trade out of their slot. Already we've heard that Denver, Cleveland, and San Fran are all willing to trade out.

What happens if Denver trades with the Texans for Patrick Peterson, and Cleveland trades with the Patriots to assure they can get Julio Jones?

Who can we trade down with? Julio Jones being available is essential, IMO, for a proposed trade-down. I don't know if there are many other players teams will be willing to trade up to get.

I don't think Cleveland would trade down. They would probably just take Julio Jones for themselves and be happy about it.

That is a legitimate fear. Jones and both of the top QBs could easily be gone by the ninth choice. If that is the case, we would have to hope someone wants to leap over the Commanders for some reason. For whom is anyone's guess. Unless somebody really wants Locker, I just don't see for whom. I find it baffling that anyone would want to trade up for Locker, but you never know anymore.

What's not true about my statement? You should share that skill about how you can somehow detect snark over the Internet - might be some money to be made there.

I remember how small Ogletree looked when he got on the field a couple years back, and he's listed at 6'1, 198. Manny Johnson is the current exception that proves the rule at 5'11. And Amendola is the recent one that got away.

Not more Amendola rueage. Please!

Of course, your following additional comment about Testeverde was completely innocent of course. You just meant to inform everyone that Bill Parcells was long gone.

Odds are, Jones will be available. But, if a team is desperate enough, they'll trade up quite a bit.

I think Cleveland is in a good position. They may be in a position to take Peterson, Quinn, or Jones. Those players are also the ones most teams are willing to trade up for.

Tennessee is also reportedly looking at Jones. This would strengthen San Fran's position.

If Peterson, Dareus, Green, Miller, Gabbert, Newton, Quinn and Jones are all taken before 9, then I can't think of any other player a team might trade up for.

Possibly Prince? Aldon Smith?

I think trading up has a better chance of happening than trading down. Actually, I think staying put has the best chance of happening.

I guess that's why both Hostile and SDogo agree that Tyron Smith is the most likely choice.

SDogo: Do they have any interest in James Carpenter out of Bama?

Good question, I'd like to know if there's any solid info on this as well. I don't believe we brought him in, did we?

I love he and Watkins in the late-1st, early 2nd. I liked them both in the 3rd at one point, but things change. I think they both can learn G and T (not this offseason, but the next maybe) and give some flexibility there. Could be asking a lot.

I have been pimping Carpenter as a second round fall back option if they don't get Smith, Castonzo, Carimi or Sherrod. He is moving up from what several of the draftniks have been saying of late.

Just some trivia:
I've also heard that if Gabbert does not goes first, Tennessee may have a trade in the works with Denver to take him at #2.

I'd take Dareus
