Going for 4th down inside your 30 in a two score game with over 20 minutes on the clock is playing to lose. Fail, and the game is over.

The goal isn't to extend the time when you theoretically are "still in the game". The goal is to win. If you punt (and aren't given the first down on a penalty), you'll lose: it'll just take longer. If you convert the 4th down and keep playing aggressively, you actually have a real chance. This FG they just kicked was another terrible decision, designed to keep them from getting blown out but not actually trying to win.
