He is at 82% now and if he falls below 80% his base pay for 2016 stays at 3m instead of 5m.

Hardy can get 500k with 2 sacks
McFadden can get 300k with 3 yards

Dems da breaks. When your bones break, you lose at the bank. Pays to stay healthy if you have an incentive laden contract. Get a better agent to negotiate a better contract next time.

While I love Sean Lee, he does us no good sitting on the bench or on the couch. No pity for him, hes still making more this year then I will my entire career. (ok I dont really know if this is true, but you get my point, hes not hurting in the cash department)

It was a good contract for him. If he proved he could stay healthy, he would have broken the bank

I hope he gets healthy enough to play in the Pro Bowl. Keuchly will probably bow out if they make the NFCCG.

I'd rather see him sit and save the Cowboys $2 mil on this years cap which can be rolled into next season.

The $2M in question regards Sean Lee's 2016 base salary.

If Lee plays 80% of the defensive snaps this season, it will increase his '16M base salary from $3M to $5M.

That is not how this incentive works.

He gets a 2m bump next year from 3m to 5m on his base. It does not change this year at all.

Essentially it is the same but he could always restructure next year to lower his cap number.

So they just renegotiate it if they need to, and roll than part into a signing bonus. Or is that a better way if he meets the bonus.
If he is good to play, he should play. Only sit if he can't play from a medical standpoint.cthat is jist a good faith way to do things. As it allows other players to want to come here to play.

If they pulled that move it would be similar to how the chargers are treating Weddle. I can't imagine a team guy like Lee going quietly about that.

It's puzzling why the players' agents don't negotiate a graduated scale for performance goals instead of a single make-it-or-break-it number.

A range with escalators would make more sense for both sides.

They can do that.

If Sean Lee hits the 80% incentive and increases his 2016 base salary to $5M, it will raise his salary cap number next season to $7.95M.

That isn't astronomical by any means, and it doesn't have to be restructured, but would represent some cap savings if it is done.

A restructure would create $3.2M, or slightly more, in 2016 cap space.

Agreed.
