Sean Lee could lose 2m if he sits Sunday

They can do that.

If Sean Lee hits the 80% incentive and increases his 2016 base salary to $5M, it will raise his salary cap number next season to $7.95M.

That isn't astronomical by any means, and it doesn't have to be restructured, but would represent some cap savings if it is done.

A restructure would create $3.2M, or slightly more, in 2016 cap space.

Agreed.

Thanks, that is some very good info.

I never knew you could roll savings into next year

Yes, if you have unused cap space you can roll it into next years cap.

However in this case (not that it's really any difference in the bottom line) BK says that this situation actually affects next year's contract for Lee– he either gets a $3 mil base or a $5 mil base... which is basically the same as rolling an extra $2 mil into next year's cap.

Well, that would be icing on the cake for this season. Watching the Cowboys beat the Skins in an absolutely meaningless game while Lee & Company collect bonuses.

Smith, Collins, Fred, Martin, Witten, Lee, Lawrence, Gregory, Crawford and Byron Jones should sit because I don't want them getting injured. So should Carr because I don't want him getting injured and getting a settlement.

It would only be wise in terms of short-term savings. You'll create a lot of turmoil by holding him out and costing him 2 million.

If he can play, it would be one of the sumbaggiest moves I've seen in a while.

Good luck getting anyone to sign an incentive laden contract with your team if they know that you'll pull the rug out from under them the moment they get close to reaching an escalator.

If playing would trash his health next season and maybe beyond, it's well worth the 2 mil to sit.

It's puzzling why the players' agents don't negotiate a graduated scale for performance goals instead of a single make-it-or-break-it number.

He has this trigger for every year in his extension. He already lost out once when he missed all of 2014. There was a total of 9.m extra to be earned over 5 years.

But he wasn't treated unfairly. He received a 10m signing bonus in 2013 and was paid 5.5m for 0 snaps in 2014.

He wanted to prove he wasn't injury prone and the team wanted to pay him as a star if he stayed healthy.

Oh for goodbess sakes..if the guy can pull his pants and shoes on suit him up and send him out for 1 play then sit him.

After sitting out all last year and not getting any bonuses or nothing..

would you really not pay him after the year he had?

Jerrah is not going to do that.

If he's hurt, we'll sit him and give him the escalator. We don't treat guys like that

You mean like how Mincey just barely missed out on his playing time incentive last season by a few snaps and the team gave him the 500k in a renegotiation this past offseason as a goodwill gesture?

The Cowboys don't operate negatively like that.

By my calculations, Lee would have to play 32 snaps in the final game to reach his incentive. That's almost exactly half.

I dont think 1 play is going to make a difference in whether he gets this bonus, but its possible.

A range with escalators would make more sense for both sides.

When you own and operate a business worth over a $1 billion, you don't neglect a $2 million incentive towards your product which helps you earn that overall net worth. It would be a bad sign to show the rest of the players (product) within your team and around the league.

If the guy can play, you play but this will tell you how serious Sean Lee is hurt if he sits out. Sean Lee's product is his health.

Sean Lee is great when he's healthy and able to contribute but that element of his value has been found wanting.

It's not his fault that that's the case but it might justifiably cost him financially. Fragility will limit any player's value.

The Dallas front office may very well elect to adjust his value according to his availability in 2016. It would be fair.

Love Sean, but he's collected enough jack sitting out with injuries, he can miss a couple mil and be ready for next year.

He is at 82% now and if he falls below 80% his base pay for 2016 stays at 3m instead of 5m.

Hardy can get 500k with 2 sacks
McFadden can get 300k with 3 yards

Sit him! He owes us some bucks for all the time he was injured and was just collecting paychecks! :)

Don't know what the contract says. I do know like they did with Mincie last year they paid the bonus anyway.

Lee is not going to be shorted.

The guy is the backbone of the defense.

You piss him off.

I know we have seen the team hand out un-earned bonuses to others..

but this is not one of those times I think.

Just my thoughts.
