I think we've overrated Sean Lee. He's a pretty good player, but he's not all-world. Throw in that he's made of silk, I would've gone in a different direction.

It's still, 'If I knew the future, I'd have done things differently.' Well yeah.

This was a typical FO gamble. They love the chance to look smarter than others above all else. So they look for these sorts of players.

The pick was a known gamble but the contract extension was bad.

1st.24- Dez Bryant
2nd.59- Navarro Bowman(dont make trade up to 55 for 125 with PHI)
3rd.90- trade up for Dez(to NE)
4th.119- Geno Atkins(Dez trade from NE)
4th.126- Greg Hardy
5th.158- trade for Montrae Holland
6th.179- no trade with MIA for 119
6th.194- Antonio Brown
7th.234- traded to move up to 194 from 196

Let's say Lee is pretty much done with his career. I'm not saying he is or probably is, just for this hypothetical let's assume the head issue is something he can't play with anymore.

If that's the case, how do you view the use of that 2010 55th overall selection? Was it a good decision? Bad? Would you do it again knowing what you know now?

I will hold off on my own thoughts on this as I know how respected and influential I am around here and I want your honest take on it before I correct it.

Knowing what we know now, I wouldn't use a prime pick on a player who can't stay on the field. But I'm pretty content with the selection based on the information we had at the time, to be honest. While he had injury problems in college, concussions and torn ACLs aren't exactly something you can forecast.

The chances of Lee being injured were pretty high.

I would say up to this point, if I could have redo on that Sean Lee pick and select any other player who was available, of course with Lee's injuries there's many other players I would have chosen in hindsight... However even with the injuries, you could've done a lot worse than Sean Lee... Jason Worilds was a good player selected by the Steelers a few picks before Lee was, but he just up and retired after last season, showing that you never know what turns a player's career/life will take...

I completely disagree with all this talk of Lee retiring after this season. He's finally got his legs right (for the moment), he's 29yo, he's not going to hang up his cleats because he got his bell rung on a couple of freakish plays. I still think it's entirely possible that we've yet to see Sean Lee's best season as a Cowboy. He hasn't been the best LB in the NFL this season, but by my estimation he's still been pretty darn good overall.

I'd do it again. He brings alot to the table (not just the operating one). He's had some misfortunes with injuries but you don't know how that player pans out at the next level.

.....agree....the physical play has got him.....He may follow in the line with Dat Nguyen.

I don't know about that. Davis actually had a few good seasons before injuries took their toll. He helped the Broncos win 2 SBs. If Lee would have helped the Cowboys win 2 SB's I'm sure nobody would be questioning the pick now. Lee hasn't made it through one season without getting injured.

My point is that it's absolutely stupid to question drafting a great player. Lee was a great pick, one of the best linebackers to ever put that star on his helmet so stop it.

And the Broncos would have been perfectly fine without TD. We need Lee out there to be a contender.

So in hindsight, knowing what we now know about the 2010 draft and knowing what we now know about Sean Lee's injury history, you'd still take Sean Lee over the following guys?
  • Antonio Brown
  • Jimmy Graham
  • Greg Hardy
  • Golden Tate
  • NaVorro Bowman
  • Geno Adkins
  • Kam Chancellor
  • Everson Griffith
  • Brandon Spikes
:)

The question wasn't really about that. Odds are if you take any draft pick in the past and compare it to what else was available you are going to take a different player. This was more about if Lee's career ends today, was he worth the 2nd round pick?

My answer is yes he was. But not for some nonsense that you can't predict injuries. He was an injury prone prospect when he was drafted. You most certainly could have made an educated guess it would continue in the NFL. But he's a dynamite player on the field and I think he's played enough to warrant the pick.

So the final answer was yes. Grade your papers accordingly.

BTW, I'm a little underwhelmed by the likes production here, so I won't be doing any more of these.

I'm gonna have to agree. There's not a whole lot to get excited about on this defense since Demarcus Ware in his prime and Roy Williams for a blink of an eye. So we build this guy up to be something he's not. Durant played damn well, Bruce Carter had his shine..Hell Mcclain came in all pro for a while before he jumped off a cliff. Point is Lee is overrated by us.

I think the biggest issue is the team hasnt been ready for his injuries, whenever he leaves a game the defense just doesnt know where to lineup and they get confused, happened in NO and in PHI, thats on coaching.
