With his injuries and inability to finish a season you have to look at him as a progress stopper, not from holding players back but from not seeing his position as a need when eventually you need to plug someone in. There was 14 linebackers (or thereabouts) at one stage this offseason and it's never once felt like a strength this year. If you could swap him for a pick going forward I'd do it, change of scenery might do both parties best.

Let's say Lee is pretty much done with his career. I'm not saying he is or probably is, just for this hypothetical let's assume the head issue is something he can't play with anymore.

If that's the case, how do you view the use of that 2010 55th overall selection? Was it a good decision? Bad? Would you do it again knowing what you know now?

I will hold off on my own thoughts on this as I know how respected and influential I am around here and I want your honest take on it before I correct it.

Picking Lee was a great decision.Then.
I loved the pick!
But he half not worked out!
Gift it up, Sean and his followers.
Hee ist done and should admit so fer his own safety. harumph!

From now on, as Consigliere to Jerry, I'm going to insist we send our people to the future to make sure we don't draft players who are going to be so injured.

The question is illogical. If you know someone is going to be injured to the point they will play roughly half the games of their team then of course you don't draft him. You go to the future, see who is an All Pro at a position of need and has a HOF career, and you then draft him.

His extension hasn't cost the team anything substantial and it gives us the opportunity to have a stud LB if we ever make that Super Bowl run. A few cap dollars is a small price to pay.

Not to mention it's a heavy incentive laden type contract. If he doesn't play he doesn't cost so much..

The Cowboys task at the time was to draft a talented player, and they did just so. Sean Lee is extremely talented. You can't predict injury.

Failed pick, but I don't blame them for taking the gamble-he was a top ten/twelve talent in that draft.

Hindsight drafts are always perfect. Always. And thus not particularly useful.

Trying to find patterns that help you in the future? Yeah, good things could come of that. Carefully checking the nature of injuries to college players. Yeah. A good idea. Especially injuries that statistically re-occur.

But the future shoulda/woulda hindsight draft list will still end up including a ton of players who got injured in college. Nature of the beast.
