And I don’t mean garret. What a dumb decision by Payton to call a time out with 2.03 on the clock. That jus gave us license to pass the ball.

Is anyone going to criticize the wonder boy coach?
that was the right call IMO. stop the clock, with the premise that you need to stop them defensively. now, they did commit penalty, but that's not what you plan for....then the two minute warning and the clock stops again....so his goal was to have dallas run two plays and take only 8 seconds off the clock. then dallas could only run one more play and kick a field goal, so expected to get the ball back with about 1.10 left.......

Truly don't think New Orleans offense matchups up with our defense. We have the defense at every level to stop them. They only really have one legit big play threat in the passing game, limit thomas with byron and cover the other guys and where can brees go with the football?

So Payton pulled a Garrett. I would still take him over our head coach any day.

No he made the dumb challenge that left him with none to challenge Beasley 1st down, left 3 on the 4th down call, and the timeout. Yeah it's on him,
Ok. You start a thread for one thing then back track for another. It's not on him but keep reaching. It's on our defense why they lost. Go watch the game for once.

Nice to see the shoe on the other foot for a change.

His early challenge cost them too, because Beasely was clearly short on tbat 4th qtr 3rddown conversion.
He also passed on taking the 3 points early...though I get that to some degree

Real nice

They even had to push off on Brown to get that big play. Otherwise they wouldn't have scored a TD.

There's no backtracking, did he not make those calls...lol

That was an awful call actually. By calling the timeout at 2.03, he was basically saving himself three seconds. That was it. And for that, he gives the cowboys a license to pass the ball (which led to the penalty) because the clock was going to stop anyway. Had he let it get to two minutes, we’re almost definitely running the ball twice and kicking a field goal.

Sean Payton really hurt his team in the end.

Taking that timeout 3 seconds before the two-minute warning was stupid. If he would have let it run to the two-minute warning, Dallas would have run the ball and played the clock game.

Instead, Payton gave Dallas a free pass play. No need to run the ball when the clock is going to stop anyway at the two-minute warning.

Throw, interference, ball game.

Kudos to Dallas for seeing that at the time. A lot of coaches (including Garrett) often miss these subtleties in the heat of the moment. Payton certainly screwed it up.

You started a thread saying he lost a game by calling a timeout before the 2min warning which really doesn't matter since the timeout would have been used regardless. He didn't lose the game on that, and he didn't lose the game by using both challenges early. Even if Beasley is stopped 2 feet short, they don't stop our running game on 4th and less than a yard. Actually the one challenge that they lost was on Mike Thomas who pleaded that he caught it. Anyways nice to see you finally understand that OUR DEFENSE WON THIS GAME. If not GO BACK AND WATCH THE GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME.

I agree but I could see Patton challenge this if he have it
Me too. And then he would have lost and still would have run out of challenges. Ha ha. His mistake was trusting the player and challenging that first call.

Payton is a great offensive mind and still one of the better coaches in the league but he's no Belichick. That's why, just like McCarthy in GB, they only have one ring while having all-time great QBs in the last 10 years

Payton has had a future hall of fame QB his entire career, and went .500 or worse 5 times.

Pardon me if I pass on the "great offensive mind" stuff. He got outfoxed by Rod friggin Marinelli tonight - not to mention his STUPID challenges and time outs - and it seems to me that Brees has made Payton (not the other way around).

We probably punt...lol, he lost the game, and you would've said the same thing if it was Garrett. ****.....lol

Let's keep in mind that "outcoached" always reflects hindsight. That's not a defense of SP or Garrett's previous calls. Just a reminder that for every call you think is bad, had the call worked, you'd be praising the coach.

Except for Mike McCarthy - he's just made a few mindless ones recently
