Hopefully, this trade is Michael's wake up call and he realizes he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is.

Or maybe he ends up proving that he is as good as he thinks he is and finally has an opportunity to showcase it.

Either way I say let's give him a chance and see what happens.

One thing to consider... immaturity can be magnified when a guy drafted that high sees no hope of ever seeing meaningful playing time. After SEA re-signed Lynch to his extension last year, Michael may have shut it down mentally because he was never going to be the starter there (barring injury). Not a good reaction, for sure. But here, his slate is clean. And there is no franchise RB blocking him from playing time. The best RB will play the most, period. I think we get his best effort because of that, and because he wants to be in Texas. And I think our simple, zone blocking offense fits his ability much better than SEA's zone read/"dark crease" system which requires much more patience. Ours is one-cut and go. Great trade IMO.
And not only that but the fact that he wants to be here. He has a golden opportunity here and I'm hoping that he seizes it.

As a RB though he couldn't have asked for a better situation to come in to. Now he just needs to go and show Seattle and the rest of the league what they're missing out on.

well out of the 4 RBs on this team one of them is bound to rise to the top. I hope! if none of them do we are in deep trouble. hoping for the best! someone please step up. if none of these RBs can with the best OLine in the game I don't know what to say man.

He's 24 and immature. We've got some pro's that will help him out. Look where Dez was at age 24. If (and its a big if) he can really learn the playbook he could be something special. He can no doubt be a monster in pass protection because not many folks are going to run through him. He's one powerful dude.

Dumb article. Dude has only been in the league for two full years. He is still in that 3 year rookie grace period where acclimation to the NFL game happens and bad tendencies are corrected. I look forward to seeing how he thrives in Big D (where he wanted to be). Let's not forget who he was backing up. It's very difficult to see the field when you're looking up at beast mode. That's like backing up Demarco.

I like the trade when considering the upside of this guy. There have, however, been plenty of talented players to not make it in the NFL because they just didn't get it. But IF he can make the most of this opportunity, we could be onto something. Let's hope!

There's no doubt he's going to get a chance. And I hope for the best for all parties involved.

But any notion that the Seahawks 'held him back' is nonsense in my opinion.

Thank for the link. The "Best RB drafted in the last 5 years" line was quotable for sure, however, this scares the hell out of me:

"As Michael neared the first-down marker — it was second-and-13 — he slowed up and stuttered before stepping out of bounds. Had he lowered his shoulder, had he used his powerful 221-pound body, he would have easily picked up the first down.

But as inexplicable as that decision was, it was what happened right after that cemented the play: Michael kept running into the end zone, yelling all the way, celebrating his run — and he hadn’t picked up the first down. He was immediately taken out of the game."
Michael's Wunderlic score was a 11 which isn't particularly surprising given what we've heard coming out of Seattle. The positive... he is still 2x as smart as Mo Claiborne... :)

It scares the hell out of you because he obviously thought he had the first down and he was pumped up over converting a big 3rd down?
That doesn't seem that scary. This story sounds like someone creating situations that probably were not significant. Who cares if a player came up short of the first down marker and thought they converted the first down.

until he doesn't or does not get the carries he wants. The more I read the more I feel he feels like he is God's Gift to NFL RB, can't learn the playbook, can't pass block, can't secure the ball.

Where did you read that he can't learn the playbook?
Where did you read that he couldn't pass block?

Not saying the guy is perfect but I'm wondering if some people are creating characteristics of Michael that are less than accurate.

This won't be the problem..

We've seen guys pulled out of thin air and play in less than a week at that position before.

What I worry about is ball protection, blitz recognition, situational football, and overall
consistency.

All he needs to do is mature and be receptive to coaching. They'll regret trading him soon enough.

I think all we need to do is start feeding this kid the rock. Get him to know about half the playbook and feed him the rock. Let McFadden and Dunbar run the 3rd and long show which is the majority of the pass blocking. Run with Michaels and playaction with him at first but no matter what he won't get any better other than to get the ball and get reps.....Game reps!

Seattle forums, the article above mentions some of his warts. , And he has only played in 16 games over his 2 year career.

So Seattle fans trying to make themselves feel better are enough of a source to say he can't learn the playbook? Come on?

Guess what I read on Seattle forums? They are afraid they traded away Ahman Green 2.0.

Or Seattle's Ahman Green.

Heck I hope he's Martellus like on the field.

Martellus is one of the best TE's in football.

People love to take shots at Marty B but he is a heck of a football player and made the right choice leaving the Cowboys.

We clearly held Martellus back.

I hope that is the case with Michael as well and he is one of the best in the league at his position and was just being held back by the Seahawks coaches and Lynch.

Fans are fans most were pissed he was gone but once you get past the homersitic posts he is a flawed back with talent. Is he more talented than what the team has now, maybe but right now all he brings is talent, and big body. Overall ability shown to this point he is closer to randle than murray.
