I think it will be interesting to see what happens after the draft. There will be lots of veterans cut after the draft. Sometimes you can fill a hole with a pretty good player relatively inexpensively.

Some bargains can probably be found at receiver, linebacker, and in the defensive backfield. Possibly even at backup QB.

You guys have any thoughts on who might come available post draft?

Who on our team is on borrowed time after the draft? Most likely possibilities for us?

Butler (if we take a WR fairly early)
Moore (if we take a QB fairly high)
Morris (might even get bumped by UDFA)
TE (If we draft anyone, someone is gone---large volume of options for defection here--including Witten)
DE--If we draft one someone has got to go
Frazier-- if a DB is drafted
Former QB turned Safety---I think he is on the bubble barring him excelling at safety

Butler (if we take a WR fairly early)............Possibly, or Whitehead if the WR can be a return guy too. But we need the competition so doubt either.
Moore (if we take a QB fairly high)..............They like Moore as their option at back up or 3rd team, he won't go anywhere.
Morris (might even get bumped by UDFA).....Morris very possibly can be bumped if the right RB shows something.
TE (If we draft anyone, someone is gone---large volume of options for defection here--including Witten)..........Swaim and / or Hanna, would doubt they start TC on PUP.
DE--If we draft one someone has got to go.........Doubt any will be released after the draft, they will let it all work itself out in TC. Carry quite a few into TC.
Frazier-- if a DB is drafted....................................Frazier not in jeopardy to be released. They want to see what he can do, and we don't have that many S's to let anyone go.
Former QB turned Safety---I think he is on the bubble barring him excelling at safety.....Jamiel Showers, why is he still here...he's and athlete but possibly not a football player.

Possible players to be released after the draft....IF the right players are selected....
Butler, Whitehead, but doubt it.
Would say an OL, but need the competition there too.
Morris, maybe Rod Smith at FB, unless he can prove he is better to keep over Morris at RB. But he too will be kept going into TC.

So really the only player that would be released are any of the reserves futures players signed, that would be replaced by an UDFA.
To my count we have 69 players signed, 49 signed and 20 reserves futures unless they have been moved to the active roster by now.
So we have 7 draft picks, and that gives us 76, so 14 to sign as UDFA's, or other FA's. I can see 6 reserves futures easily replaced. So that can give us up to 20 players plus the 7 draft picks to come in yet.
I don't see a lot of changes of the players already on the roster going into TC other than the lower normal churn type players.

Why would they release players after the draft? They off-season roster has 90 players. Training Camp is when players generally get released.

The Cowboys generally don't release many, if any players between the draft and training camp. They will cut guys that show up out of shape or that got into some (unknown to the public) trouble in the off-season, but otherwise it's unlikely.

Maybe a guy like Morris would request his own release if he thinks he'll be cut anyway.

Witten is not going anywhere this year. I have no idea why anybody would think that he wouldn't be on the team. He played basically 100% of the offensive snaps in most games last season. In addition to that, Jerry would not want to take more heat from fans for moving on from a likely HOF player and fan favorite after having to cut Romo.

TWill was lucky he didn't get cut already and I still believe his saving grace so far was the minimal price tag he agreed to. I don't think he makes it through training camp.

I think he meant to phrase it "i wouldnt if he got cut"

But its not happening. TWil has been solid and he 'ams what he 'ams.

Butler disappointed me. THan they resigned him. I guess if Garrett is extended, standards are low.

TWill definitely has his supporters and cutting him was never going to be a popular decision but there are only so many rosters spots and TWill has not lived up to his 2WR position. I believe a new face will be coming on board at that position and uproot his security of making the 53 man roster.

Even if our first round pick is a WR we aren't cutting TWill. Butler might get bounced in TC, but Williams is going to be a Cowboy this season

Everyone knows how you love to be wrong. But c'mon he's got $9.5 million guaranteed.

Can't tell if you're serious. Twill has been a great role player for us since he was drafted.
He does what is asked. I wish Dallas would want more out of the WR2 spot, but the offense is structured otherwise. They made their choice when he returned on a relatively benign deal in free agency.

If the Cowboys add a WR, Whitehead will go not TWill.

God I wish we could get rid of Whitehead.

TWill is at a great price, hard to get rid of him. I do hope we get another real #2 option in the passing game. A real #2 WR earns his way into being the #2 option, and TWill can't even get past #4.

I wouldn't get rid of TWill, just drop him down the depth chart with someone better with real deep speed. Keep Butler also. Get rid of the Whitehead.

TWill has been pretty solid for us. He's basically this teams Alvin Harper, not great but pretty damn good. He's not going anywhere, but I would like to see us add a true speed demon and cut ties with Lucky, who makes a play about every 3 or 4 games.....

So Williams and his relatively cheap contract is getting cut while Butler and Whitehead stay?

Um, ok.

Um, ok.

Makes sense to cut the best run blocking WR in the league when your the best run based offense in the league doesn't it? Williams can't catch with his hands but he makes plays when he has too, they never beat the Lions in 2014 without him
