Here's a fresh cup of perspective.
You aren't crazy bro, Dez has always had 'homeboy' issues.
It's not that big of a deal to me, because if the other 63 starting WRs in the NFL were followed around as closley as Dez Bryant you'd find that he's par for the course.
He has to do a better job of understanding the visibility of Dallas, but right now he's 21, progressing, and really came along at the end of the year. All the off the field stuff has no bearing until he's walking out of a court room in a fur coat or if it visibly affects the Cowboys chances of winning.
He's more than a 3 route off the field headache. He's set for a breakout season, he's a guy that's physially superior to his competition and once he figures it out he's gonna be great.
But while we obsess and prod into this 21 year old mans life. BTW what were you all doing at 21? Now imagine the pressures associated with a millionaire lifestyle in Dallas being the next great Cowboy WR. It's not as easy as go home and study your playbook all night.
But I want to leave you Puritans with 2 things before I jam.
1) He's going to figure it out, he's already done great for a 2nd year player at working hard in a short offseason. He still needs to polish route techniques, mid-play route adjustments (seeing the corner cheat on a blitz and signal to your Qb to run a go instead of a hitch, nuances like that), zone recognition, and understanding when to live to fight another day or battle 3 men for 2 yards. Physially he's fine when he's healthy, plus he saw a healthy dose of bracket coverage last year with safety help over the top in a lot of traditional Tampa 2 sets so he really did great considering he saw #1 receiver attention in a lot of games. Plus, remember he's working with a garbage OL that doesn't ever give him Qb time to comfortably hit his back foot on a 7 step drop, let alone have time to let Dez get deep down the field where he can be a vertical threat. Patrick Peterson was right, he had 3 routes, then in the last 4 games Garrett unleashed him running Austin's almost full route tree combination and he really was torching guys. The game I was at in Dallas he was literally open almost every play but Romo was running for his life most of that game.
2) Everyone does it. Yes, out of 64 starting WRs in the NFL - more than half of them smoked weed, or hung out wiith sketchy characters at some point during thier career. Santonio Holmes, basically dealt weed, got busted and failed multiple tests. Hines Dancin' Behind Bars Ward has got caught getting high and driving drunk. Randy Moss circa 98-07. Brandon Marshall routinely assaults his significant other every offseason. Dante Stallworth drunkenly ran over a man, and walked btw. Jerome Simpson got popped getting pounds of reefer smuggled to his house from his teammates southern cal hookup. Sam Hurd was selling more drugs than Scarface. Rae Carruth killed his pregnant wife. So ya see, Dez smoking a doobie in the offseason is the least of my worries, neither is paying his bills, or where he wears his pants, that's dumb **** for dumb people to obsess about, all I care about is what he does for 3 hours on 20 days out the year.
Dez has zero arrests, no failed drug tests, and really cares about this teams performance on Sunday. It shows in how he plays on every single snap, I wish the other 52 guys played with half this guys emotion and maybe we'd go somewhere. As long as we win it'll be okay and you'll be forgiven, ask Irvin, but if we lose, you'll always be the reason.
Because face it, this team has about 20 other things more important to worry about than what Dez Bryant's lackey puts on youtube, like c, g, de, cb, nickel cb, ilb, olb, dt, ss, fs, backup qb, 3rd wr, te, gm, oc, etc etc.
