I'm amazed by the posts in this thread.

Sensabaugh basically shut down the best TE's we faced all season long. He is exceptional in coverage on TE's, and he showed up more in all coverage than Hamlin.

I don't believe for a second that Dallas will let him walk...I think they felt safe with a 2nd round tender and want to see what the market offers.

When you let your good players walk and have to replace them, you usually take a step backwards in the transition. This team is already very good and should continue upgrading.

agree, everyone should be careful what they wish for....he IS part of the reason our secondary was upgraded this past season and was injured.....i still think he is very solid

Prepare yourself for the wrath of Theo.

Yeah he's been drinking the Hamlin kool-aid for awhile, but the numbers clearly show he is a liability and there's no arguing that his poor tackling cost us probably two games.

When your a starting FS with basically no coverage responsibilities, and you never get your hands on the football (two+ years is not a coincidence) you arnt doing your job, especially with the pass rush we've had the past two seasons. It'd be one thing if he was dropping picks, but he doesnt even get into position for pass deflections, let alone drop them.

I don't think we can easily find a strong safety his caliber for a second-round pick, so I would be upset if we lost him for that.

He played one ball poorly this year, in the Minnesota game, but other than that he shadowed tight ends and receivers all over the field, often without help. Not too many strong safeties, at least ones also good in run support, who can do that.

Jerry Jones said he and Austin were priorities, and there's good reason for that.

I agree. 2nd rounder is nice, but I'd rather keep him and upgrade FS. I think a 2nd year in Phillips system, without a cast, in his prime, Sensabaugh will be very good. I wish we used a 1st round tender on him.

Cowboys haven't had a good safety duo in about 8 years, and now people think they're just going to magically go out and find two new solid starters this offseason (with a horrible FA market)? Sensabaugh isn't a big play maker, but he's solid and does everything pretty well.

That said, I'm not that worried about losing him. I don't think a team will give up a huge longterm contract & a 2nd rounder for a guy coming off a 1 INT season. Not a huge surprise that while he's trying to negotiate a new longterm contact his agent leaks out that "unnamed" teams are showing interest in him.

I agree with this.

He is very fast, shuts down TE's, and can match up on the slower WRs....why would we let this guy go when we have been lacking this for years?

I also think he dropped some balls that would have been picks because of the cast. I think he only gets better this year...

Get a FS to pair with him and we are set!

Of course, he could argue that Hamlin not giving up big plays is good enough. He may not be getting the picks, but he's not getting scorched either. Then again, you'd expect a little bit more from a guy pulling down that kind of coin.

Since he's rarely man to man with anyone, not giving up any big plays is hardly an endorsement of him playing well. Quite often he is back deep providing help to one side of the field or just playing centerfield.

He's paid as one of the elite safeties in the league, and there's hardly anyone who starts regularly who makes fewer plays.

Imagine this scenario:

1. We receive a 2nd for Sensy

2. We sign an offer sheet for OJ Atogwe (which goes through) and we give no compensation.

3. We use the 2nd round pick from Sensy and another 4th to move up and draft Earl Thomas.

OJ Atogwe and Earl Thomas...championship!!

Sensy is pretty dependable. I'd like to see another year out of him before making my mind up. I doubt he goes anywhere this year. M Hamlin is untested and inexperienced. K Hamlin isn't more than average. Ball might be a fill in should we lose a starter. I hope we draft a safety. I doubt it happens but I'd love some peoples mocks with Allen in the second. Too low for him.

AKA our safeties are mediocre and we need a ballhawk at the safety position. Hamlin, Sensabaugh nor Ball give us that. OJ and Earl!

What about it? Dallas has been solid against the run ever since Bill came in. If your safeties are making tackles in the box then you've got a problem. Hamlin is a poor tackler in space and Sensabaugh didn't stand out to me as a great tackler.

If Sensabaugh walks away for a 2nd rounder...we might have a very strong offensive draft and a little more ammunition for some old fashioned Jerry Jones wheeling and dealing.

HOWEVER - I am hoping Sensabaugh stays in Dallas. I like what he brought to the position opposite Hamlin. If he does leave, though, it opens the door for Mike Hamlin to step up to the plate.

Hamlin²!

Good post. Too many people are too much fascinated by the draft gamble to properly evaluate the worth of a proven player.

They are the same people who wanted to lose Romo for a second round pick a couple of years ago. And Austin last year.

How is Sensabaugh going to make any visits? I thought he was STILL trying to figure out where that pass to Sidney Rice went.

I'm not saying I wouldn't be interested, but didn't OJ Atogwe have a horrible year. I understand 2 years ago he had a lot of picks, but what has this guy done in his career?

If we got Earl Thomas though I'd be one happy dude!!
