Good lord our secondary would be set for years.

AKA our safeties are mediocre and we need a ballhawk at the safety position. Hamlin, Sensabaugh nor Ball give us that. OJ and Earl!

What about it? Dallas has been solid against the run ever since Bill came in. If your safeties are making tackles in the box then you've got a problem. Hamlin is a poor tackler in space and Sensabaugh didn't stand out to me as a great tackler.

It would be ridiculous, and their contracts would average like 4.5 mil together

Earl Thomas has yet to play a snap in the NFL, let alone Rookie Minicamps and OTAs.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

I think a lot of you guys forget why Hamlin was brought to Dallas in the first place:

"In his first season with the Cowboys, Hamlin earned his first Pro Bowl selection, being named a starter for the NFC and was one-of-13 Cowboys selected - setting a team and NFL record. He started all 16 games at free safety recording 102 tackles (third on the team) - his first career 100-tackle season - five interceptions (second on the team and tied for ninth in the league) and a single-season career-best 14 pass breakups. He made his Cowboys debut against the New York Giants on September 9, recording nine tackles and one pass breakup." - wikipedia

He's no Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu, but he's no slouch. Seems like a lot of people have amnesia at how bad the secondary was after Woody retired.

I wonder if Hamlin could play SS. If Dallas drafts Earl Thomas to play centerfielder, could Hamlin step up and stop the run? He certainly has the body type for it, although I don't know if he would be willing to stick himself out there. I think Thomas is sliding down the board right now, and maybe Dallas thinks they have a legit shot at him.

I'm not saying I wouldn't be interested, but didn't OJ Atogwe have a horrible year. I understand 2 years ago he had a lot of picks, but what has this guy done in his career?

If we got Earl Thomas though I'd be one happy dude!!

horrible year? He didn't play in 5 games and still managed 80+ tackles and 2 picks, with one of the worst defenses/pass rushes in the league.

Read above - in 2007 Hamlin had 100+ tackles. He could definitely do it, in my opinion. He might actually excel at it, covering tight ends.

Dallas likes Mike Hamlin to be a potential starter at SS though. If the coaches decided to move Ken to SS, look for Alan Ball to play FS. I think he's got an ungodly amount of potential as a DB, just mired deep on the depth chart.

You're going to make a lot of tackles and snag a few INTs when teams are going bananas on your putrid defense.

The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league. The past two years, Hamlin has been a below average, mediocre at BEST safety. The guy was playing in a contract year and then after he got his money, he makes no impact plays after that. It's inexcusable to have Ware, Spencer, Ratliff rushing the passer and your safeties COMBINED the past two years have TWO INTERCEPTIONS. Yeah, Thomas hasn't played a down in the NFL, but this kid has so much potential. Sensabaugh and Hamlin are not going to get any better. When you have a chance to get a playmaker in college like Thomas, and has the ability to play CORNER as well, you have to jump over the guy if you have a chance at him.

Imagine this scenario:

1. We receive a 2nd for Sensy

2. We sign an offer sheet for OJ Atogwe (which goes through) and we give no compensation.

3. We use the 2nd round pick from Sensy and another 4th to move up and draft Earl Thomas.

OJ Atogwe and Earl Thomas...championship!!

I was thinking the same thing!!!!!

Sign OJ Atogwe. Bye Hamlin.

Collect that 2nd rounder and use it to trade up for Earl Thomas.

Atogwe+Earl Thomas=Best defense ever assembled.

Ok, let's get serious. If St Louis had the defense and more specifically the pass rush that Dallas has, Atogwe would have come down with at least 6 picks IMO, not to mention he didn't even play in 5 games. Good Pass rush - horribly thrown balls = INT. It's still beyond me why our FS didn't record AT LEAST a pick. Brutal. Those stats you provided were from like 2007. Who cares?.

What constitutes an "impact play" for you?

As far as I can see, having the 2nd rated scoring defense in the NFL was pretty good. We might have had a rough game to finish the season in the playoffs, but I wouldn't be so quick to break up a good thing just yet.

Did it occur to you that maybe, by reducing the number of gamble plays by the safeties, we ended up trading interceptions for less points scored?

Or have you never played DB before?

Would he? And for every one of those 6 picks how many passes would he miss on and end up giving up a bomb to DeSean Jackson? Think about the scheme for a second before you think about video games.

Mike Hamlin and Ken Hamlin .... championship?

I don't think Sensabaugh is gonna sign with another team. JJ said specifically that he would be a big part of the defense in 2010. The second round tender makes sense due to the fact that this draft class is deep. There will be quality guys way past the second round. I highly doubt this organization will let Sensi go.

If everyone just calms down and thinks rationally for a second, JJ and SJ are busy with signing other guys to long term contracts who have a higher priority like Austin and Spears. The guys that have seniority here need to be taken care of first.
