Difference is that Atogwe would cost 1.23 mil

Hamlin is getting more than 3 times that much.

If you think he'd only cost $1.23M, you ignored my post on the CBA and the uncapped year.

I think you both go too far in your arguments.

Yes, the coverage does dictate how the opposing O attacks our D, but Hamlin is a part of that coverage. I don't think you can take all credit from him for seeing so few passes.

If he's reading the offense right, then he's doing his job as the center fielder of taking away the deep threat and helping to force the checkdown. He's failing in the area of making plays on the ball, which is what we want to see more of, but at least part of that is because he's where he's supposed to be in coverage, forcing the quarterback to throw elsewhere. In that sense, he is "locking down in coverage."

Sweet Jesus. This man knows what a Free Safety is supposed to do.

You make a former CB/FS like myself choke up a little bit around here.:
*sigh of relief*

Sometimes you wonder if any fans actually know how the game is played.

Thank you.

Does that mean I can get cheaper tickets and merchandise?

Or are you worried about our cap figure this year?

Re-read your own post. Then re-read again. Then think about if you want to edit it.

oops, yeah, I meant to say low-percentage.

And opposing QBs are coincidentally only putting up 250 points through a season, 2nd in the NFL in scoring defense.

/thread.

Pass-rush, top CB play and Sensy locking down TEs and backs.

You would LOVE Atwoge then.

But let's look at the numbers for Atogwe and Hamlin since 2006.
Hamlin - 4.7 tackles per game, 3 sacks, 9 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles

Atogwe - 5.1 tackles per game, 2 sacks, 18 interceptions, 14 forced fumbles

Atogwe turns 29 in June. Hamlin is 29; Rolle 27

how about those bad angles?

we could have Alan Ball back there and still be 2nd in scoring defense.

This defense does not hinge on Hamlin.

Glad to see you strive low though. 2nd in scoring defense. How about we get a good safety to make that #1. I dunno. Just sayin.

You do know that Otoghwe's tender is 1.23 mil, right? How much do you think St. Louis is going to go up to keep him?

NFC West Quarterbacks: Shaun Hill/Alex Smith, Kurt Warner/Matt Lienart, Matt Hasselbeck/Seneca Wallace

NFC East: Eli Manning, Donovan McNabb, Jason Campbell (who plays like a Pro Bowler against the Cowboys for some reason...must be that rivalry thing)

Come on...you want to really get into the weeds?

I came back with stats that show his passes defended and INTs relative to how much he's targeted.

In case you weren't aware, if a player isn't targeted, he can't defend the pass. Just a heads up for you. That one was for free.

hahahaha typical comeback once again. Cut the crap man. 4 PD's and 1 pick in two years is unacceptable, especially for one of the best defenses in the league who creates the most pressure. To put his stats in perspective, Demarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Bradie James, Keith Brooking, Terrence Newman, Mike Jenkins, Gerald Sensabaugh ALL had 5 or more PD's, and thats in one year. Heck even Marcus Spears had 2 Pd's. I guess Jerry and Stephen are both idiots for wanting to get rid of him, huh?

More than $1.23M if they're willing to dangle him out there, particularly with what they have to work with on their roster.

His shoulder's all torn up too. $1.23M is too much when a guy can't even pass a physical.

LOL @ being #2 in the NFL "striving low." Hilarity. Absolute hilarity.

How the hell does a tackle per game stat (with a difference of less than a half a tackle) prove one person takes better angles than the other?

You really don't understand how this works do you?

Maybe you should read it more slowly. Try and comprehend every word that is being said before you type out a response. It's okay to take your time.

Don't ask, just accept it as fact. It's law.

Did you know that Atogwe also is in on 2.4 more pile-ups than Hamlin per season? Sign him, Jerry. CHAMPIONSHIP.

So it's a trap then huh? They're going to drive up the price and end up paying him 6 mil a season?

wow....just don't even pay attention to the interceptions or forced fumbles. I mean it's not like angles have anything to do with those it's just "luck" like Theoght says:laugh2:

Not $6M per season, but yeah, with a shoulder injury I would definitely consider it a trap if I were a GM.

Work with what you've got...you've got a guy in Mike Hamlin you couldn't even get on the field due to injury but you want to bring in some guy with a shoulder in shambles? Lets look at the big picture and not just the stat line of a safety in the dreadful NFC West versus one in the NFC East...knee-jerk reactions land you great GM moves like 2 first rounders for Jay Cutler, $100M for Albert Haynesworth, or....2 first rounders for Joey Galloway.

Edit: especially for a group of armchair GMs that are all up in arms about tackling and taking angles...you want to bring in a guy whose main weapon for tackling is torn to shreds?

please stop? would you. Stop with the not being targeted BS cause thats pathetic and thats the only excuse you can come up with. People have shown you stats, you've seen numbers, thats what it call comes down to. HAMLIN IS NOT A TOP SAFETY IN THIS LEAGUE, THE SOONER YOU REALIZE IT THE BETTER. JUST LOOK AT THE DAMN NUMBERS. Maybe you should take your time and read what I'm saying, cause clearly you have no effective comeback. Read my posts, take them all in, think about them, take in all the stats, and please, please, admit you're wrong.
