How can you say that for certain when both our guys are mediocre to average at best, and the guys who replace them could be alot better?

I'm sorry, but getting rid of Hamlin and Sensabaugh and potentially having Bethea/Thomas or Allen , or even M Hamlin would hardly be a step backwards.

How do we know that improving one by replacement wont make the other current one better? in my opinion keep sensi and replace hamlin and see how it goes.

He needs to improve or go, but he isn't the worst in the NFL. He is upper echelon of the NFC in fact. If we change one of the two starters that is fine with me. But changing both is suicide.

If either of our guys were really good, you might have an argument. But sense niether is a world beater and one of them cant cause a turnover to save his life, it isnt that far fetched to think that replacing both might lead to better play.

Thats what would probably be idea, but Sensabaugh wasnt exactly a world beater either.

Honestly I dont think it'd be that hard to upgrade both, and I'm about 100% sure dumping Hamlin would result in improvement.

I can't say i disagree with you, especially with the bolded part.

I guess it just seems like it would kinda sketchy to have two new safeties unfamiliar with the system going into the season. I guess i would prefer hamlin gone, replaced by free agent and then draft a safety to take over for sensi but keep him this year.

I think the other Hamlin might end up being a pleasant surprise for us at some point too.

I'm not for trading our 1st for Bethea, but if Indy would take our 2nd it'd probably be a good deal. Then pair him with either Sensabaugh or M Hamlin and we might see some better production. Still would love to see us land Earl Thomas though.

You can negotiate for a lower pick but I don't see the Colts doing it unless they were ready to part with him.

I have no issue with drafting a Safety early. I have no issue with letting one of them go. Either one, though I would prefer to keep Sensabaugh. I think it is madness to want to replace both of them or to cal them the worst in the NFL. Anyone who does that has no clue how bad the Giants Safeties were, and is talking purely form frustration. That kind of mentality leads to reaching for someone in the Draft, and I don't want to do that. I don't want to pay a 1st or 2nd for Bethea. I'd rather use that pick in the Draft.

I'm amazed by the posts in this thread.

Sensabaugh basically shut down the best TE's we faced all season long. He is exceptional in coverage on TE's, and he showed up more in all coverage than Hamlin.

I don't believe for a second that Dallas will let him walk...I think they felt safe with a 2nd round tender and want to see what the market offers.

When you let your good players walk and have to replace them, you usually take a step backwards in the transition. This team is already very good and should continue upgrading.

This is exactly right! No way Jerry thought anyone would give us a 2nd for Sensy. We do not need to replace him he played very well for us even though he was injured for much of last season.

I wouldn't be that upset if we lost him for a second rounder. I like his tackling but he has poor ball instincts and isn't very good at covering TEs.

I'm not against that because Bethea has proven he's worth the pick. I'd prefer holding onto the pick, though, and getting a free safety that won't cost us a pick or working out a deal with Indy. However, if we gave up the pick for Bethea, I could live with it.

To show the value of Bethea, here's part of an article from The Miami Herald:

The Dolphins held multiple discussions Friday about the prospect of signing Colts restricted free agent Antoine Bethea, sources said Saturday.
The odds still remain low on such a deal, but it nonetheless speaks to the extent to which Miami is willing to ponder.

Bethea, a rising star in the league, would be a clear upgrade for Gibril Wilson’s recently vacated spot.

The issue is, he would come with a huge cost. Because the Colts placed a first-round tender on Bethea, Miami would need to surrender its 12th overall pick while also offering a huge contract to get him.

It’s possible the team could alleviate some of that by exploring a trade with the Colts — perhaps packaging multiple less valuable picks — but Indianapolis’ depth concerns at safety could make the Colts reluctant to deal him.
