Serious Question: Is Dak better now than Romo in his prime?

The “leadership” word is what is used when people have to say something positive about players that are lacking in football skills. Sports journalists are all commenting on what a great “leader” Jaylon Hurts is because they have to say something positive….or else

The rest of us know Hurts sucks and aren’t compelled to deflect from it. And being “liked” by the players doesn’t show leadership skills……it just means they like him, her or it.

Yep. When you can't point to actual football results you talk about, "intangibles."

Well, one thing about Dak vs. Romo is that Dak can check down much better than Romo ever did. Check down Charlie is what Dak is if cover 2 is lingering around.

That's not even true.

Check out Murray's receiving numbers in 2014. People knock Dak for checkdowns, but the checkdown isn't the problem. The problem is how late he gets to his checkdown. Sometimes the defense has everything covered and you have to hit the checkdown.

Good QBs see that coming and will go to the checkdown almost as if it's their first read. Romo did that quite a bit in his later years. If it's a back, the quicker you get them the ball the more space they have to operate. Notice how many times Dak checks down to Zeke and the defender has already closed the space.

Dak has improved and what not but I think Romo was greater with less

Romo was quicker but he didn’t lead the locker room.
Dak has adequate skills and maybe grinds harder. I’m not certain about that but it is my impression.
I guess its a coin flip for me.

Not necessarily. As we saw in Kurt Warner's breakdowns of the AZ and SF games last year, Dak frequently misses windows because he holds the ball too long. Yes, interceptions are bad and easier to identify as such, but so is a missed opportunity resulting in a punt.

He even got Dez Bryant paid like something he never was, and he extended the largely impactful side of Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens, and Jason Witten beyond their physical abilities late in their careers.

Meanwhile, Dez disappeared the minute Dak showed up, and Cooper, Lamb, and Gallup go way underutilized against good teams in important games.

Tony played chess while Dak plays checkers. It's really that simple, and that's not so much a criticism of Dak because this is true for the vast majority of NFL quarterbacks.

But when you're making $40 million per year.......

(* Did Romo even play in his first 4 seasons? If so, compare the stats. I'll wait...)

4. Cowboys are 31-3 when Dak has a 100+ passer rating.

5. Dak has the sixth highest touchdown-to-interception ratio in NFL HISTORY!!
(* I can bet my two homes and my bank accounts that Romo isn't in the top 5 of this category)

And to answer your question, no I don't think Romo and Dak are better than Aikman and Staubach. So stop assuming things because thats not a strength of yours.

Now be careful when comparing old timers to current players. Football was much different back then than it is now. Some of those former players from past decades who were stars back then, would be bench riders in today's game.

You have those 5 things copied into a word document that you pull out all the time like anyone cares about it. It's just more empty, meaningless stats that help people that have no idea what they are watching on Sundays follow the game.

It's likely Romo's success with those guys informed the front office's opinion that Dak could succeed with, "WR by committee," which resulted in giving up a 1st rd pick for a guy we traded for a 5th rounder less than 5 years later.

Imagine having to overcome 5 sacks, 14 hits, a dozen drive killing penalties and a clinically insane percentage of pressure rate in the 9ers game and STILL getting the blame for the loss even though he scored all the TDs and had half the rushing yards. Lol.
