Settling for FGs won’t get it done in the playoffs

Horrible redzone execution today. Can’t leave points on the board against the Niners and Eagles.
So two weeks into a new offense and when they are not taking chances with the game well in hand and you freak out? Plus they put up 30! Could it have been better? Absolutely, but why push it when the game was well in hand?

Actually, unless you are in a 30+ point shootout, kicking a bunch of FGs to add to your lead will win most games. With our defense, we won’t be in many shootouts, not even in the playoffs. SF won with 19 points which included FGs. Every game should be played based on your opponent and what it takes to win….period. If you want a shock, go back to our last two SB years and check out the game scores those years.

Well the playoffs are along ways off, plus this is a new offence and this is only the 2nd game the starters have played under this new offence…

12 points were left on the field on three straight drives, but the important thing is that the offense did not turn the ball over and give a huge momentum break to the Jets when they needed it most.

I'm pretty sure McCarthy would be more aggressive with the goal line calls if this were a playoff game. He was being conservative because it was obvious that the Jets could only score on fluke plays like that long pass play to Wilson, or a big turnover.

I was going to start this thread, but you beat me too it. And I know you will get shouted down for this thread. But you and I are on the same page. Do I love the win? Yes! Do I think we are entitled to win? No! It is hard to win in this league. BUT....BUT....it is even harder to win in the playoffs. The playoffs represent the best teams, gameplans and coaches. And this offense will get you 11 - 13 wins in the regular season(which we already do)...you will win ONE playoff game (which we already do)....and you will then get sent home.

Our arrogance is WHY we lost to the 49ers 2 years in a row. We ran it back...thinking surely it must have been a fluke...and then they decided to beat us with a 7th round rookie to prove to us it wasn't a fluke. And not once did they think they would lose to us. Do you know why? Because they were not scared of this offense. And I don't care what the scores have been...unless you plan for the defense to only give us 5 ppg....or to sack the QB at this rate....or to generate turnovers at this rate....we will not beat the BEST teams in the NFL.

That is where this organization is right now. I will enjoy THIS win...but until I see how we perform against the best teams in the league...I will not allow myself to get too high or too low.

I was worried how we would look in short yardage...and I still am. And I was worried if our outside WRs could be physical and win 50-50 balls...and I still am. Either they don't trust Dak or they don't trust their WRs...because Gallup was 1 v 1 often inside the 5 on the outside and they never even made an attempt. There is no Dez or Micheal Irvin on this roster...so either get these big TEs prepared to play bully ball inside the 5...or it will be tough sledding when we play the upper ecehlon teams!

If we played like we did today we would have disposed the 49ers and Those Dirty birds. You just can’t see the entire picture just yet, but you will come playoff time. This is how you win playoff games!!!

Exactly. Ralph Kramden is going to have to drive the bus faster than 20 MPH eventually. But the D is unbelievable!
