Everyone talks about how we are soft and can't respond once we're hit in the mouth.

Then at the same time, people say the psychological aspect of the game is important. Seems like a double standard to me.

If nothing else that extra bit of desire may increase focus and push some guys towards a couple extra reps etc.
It didn't seem like they were ready mentally for how physical things were last year. And maybe they did over look the commanders but dam did they come out and physically dominate Tampa and just contest every play. I think they'll do it again.

Disappointed they didn't keep him and develop him. They need more than Hankins. Gallimore and Bohanna will need to be active. Which makes the possible need for two kickers on gameday frustrating...
Yeah, didn't mean to sidetrack things. The point really was, when Jerry doubted needing another big guy in the offseason, Mike reminded him of the 49er game where we got bullied around and how he wanted to fix that.

So that playoff loss definitely stuck with Mike. I don't remember his Green Bay teams getting pushed around much.

All that revenge stuff goes out the window the moment the game starts - this is just rah rah stuff. Execution and gameplan is all that matters once they get on the field.
Either you haven’t ever played an organized sport against a rival or your apathetic to most things in life because when we played our rival in HS we HATED them and we definitely put something extra in our blocks (I was O-line/D-line) and so did they.

Thankfully we never lost to them which made the trash talk all that sweeter.

Yes revenge and emotions play a part to say otherwise is just naive

Exactly. Also when a Cowboys player speaks out, people are like: "Why is he giving bulletin board material to the opposition, bla, bla ..." If emotion don't matter, then, What's the problem?

Don’t mind that and don’t mind if that’s the vibe in the locker room but when the pads go on and the balls kicked off and they start to play they have to bring that same nasty. This team is the big boys, they come ready to fight. Gotta match that intensity and hit them back.

Tackling and just sound fundamental intense football this weekend is so key

Revenge doesn't make you run faster, make you taller, make you stronger...

You either execute the gameplan and coaches take advantage of matchups or you lose. That's football. ALL of what you are saying is locker room and after practice BS. Also, most players are more worried about performance on the field due to job security and monetary reasons. They'll all be smiling and signing each others jerseys after the game win or lose.

The "revenge factor" in professional sports gets overblown in media. The game will still come down to matchups, as it did the last time they met.

Will the Cowboys have answers to the issues that led to defeat? Those will mean a lot more than any desire for "revenge" once the game starts.

These are pro athletes getting paid millions of dollars; if you think revenge is what will get them over the top, or make them more focused..,i guess you can think that. This ain't Al Bundy at Polk High. But preparation and execution as well as aggression will be the biggest factors in determining who controls the LOS. Revenge goes out the door once you get smacked by your opponent or you smack your opponent. Set the tone for the rest of the game.
Fans always say this type of stuff, but the reality is some of these million dollar athletes benefit from outside motivation. It's just in their human nature. Call it petty, immature or whatever, but it's real.

I don't care what anyone says revenge is a strong motivator. Anyone who played sports before will tell you it's real.

Bobby Belt on the radio - McCarthy leaned into 49ers playoff loss. Brought it up consistently throughout offseason, training camp, regular season, team meetings, etc.

Mike Fisher on Youtube - McCarthy made sure every one in organization top to bottom knew we got "big boyed" last year.

Jon Machota on Media Mash - Players are licking their chops for this rematch.

Nate Netwon on DC.com - Likes the vibe he's getting in the building this week.

Just some interesting tidbits I've seen in the media the last few days.
Play football and worry about that other stuff later. Execute and the rest will take care of itself.
They executed the heck out of the Bucs. Haven't seen that kind of focus in a long time.

Well, it's good to know we're not overlooking them!

Good. I’d be worried if they didn’t have that game on their minds right now. Emotion can totally transform people so I don’t understand how some folks thinks this doesn’t matter at all. Of course in the end talent is critical but these teams are in the same ballpark. That extra bit of energy you can get from an emotional game like this could be the difference.
