Am I mistaken or was Pettis the one that had character issues?

You're thinking of Titus Young, another Boise State WR.

Pettis just had production issues - as a WR, he barely averaged 10 yards a catch.

Signing Hakeem Nicks doesn't excite me.

Indianapolis Colts (2014)
On March 14, 2014, Nicks signed a one-year deal worth a maximum of $5.5 million with the Indianapolis Colts. In the Colts' Week 17 game against the Tennessee Titans, Nicks had 3 receptions for 46 yards, taking him over 5,000 receiving yards for his career. He finished the season with just 38 receptions, 408 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Tennessee Titans
On April 24, 2015, Nicks signed a 1 year deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Nicks was released by the Titans on Sept. 5, 2015.

Nicks is watched out, rather see more of a Laurent Robinson type who is younger and can run.

I would try to make a deal with Houston or some one else for a guy like Nate Washington.

I could see Nicks coming in and having a Robinson like impact while Dez is out. With the time the OL gives Romo, Nicks could be useful. I agree no one on the streets can come in a command double teams but you need someone that would at least take one of the top two CBs to cover. You put Nicks out wide on our offense and the other team will take notice and be forced to use one of their best CBs on him. That at least will keep teams from doubling Witten and Beasley.

There is no one out there right now that would excite anyone. Nicks however might be the best option to at least make defenses still play us straight up. That way we can get by with just uping the touches for Escobar, Beasley, and Dunbar in the passing game.

AJ Jenkins played well in preseason. Has he signed with anyone? I would sign him if he is available.

Bigger question than who signs is who gets cut? Or does Dez go on IR-Designated to return? I wonder if it is Clutts temporarily? It could be McCray.

It's a shame Miles Austin was not cut he could come in and offer a James Jones type of role. You're right though no one on that list is even enticing.

Huh. I guess I knew that on some level however Street, to me, has played small so far in his career in Dallas.

Its funny how that is sometimes.

Dez is just 6-2, however, he plays like he is 6-5, 6-6.

Career?
He's not even out of kindergarten yet.

I agree, for a while I always thought Dez was at least 6'3" without paying much attention to his actual numbers. I guess it all depends on how the player uses his size. I'd take a very physical 5'11" guy who knows how to use his body to get leverage & position vs. some guy who just happens to be big.

Would rather have someone that can help take the top off the defense. With so many balls going to RBs out the backfield, it'd make sense to have a burner that can keep a defense honest.

Remember, Tony Romo has made guys like Crayton, Robinson, Bease, Hurd, Williams, etc all look like decent NFL talents. He's made a career of making average guys look great, as long as they have enough speed to get 'some' separation - Romo will handle the rest. They've been high on Street, but he's starting to become Ogletree 2.0.

Also, I'd expect us to run a lot of two TE sets now like New England did with Gronk & the murderer. This could be a big opportunity for Escobar to justify that 2nd round pick.

It's more about their route running than speed. Crayton and Robinson were hardly burners, but they were smart and could find holes in zones and run their routes correctly, being where Romo expected/needed them to be.
