I've not watched many Lions games this season, but all reports are Sewell has been excellent this season. I think he still is a generational type of talent for Detroit, keep in mind this guy just turned 22 years old a couple weeks ago. Once this season is done he will have 2 years of NFL experience and be the same age as many of our draft picks in the upcoming draft. For that reason I think it is more than fair to view him as someone who has the ability to take his game to the next tier, maybe two.
Last year Sewell stepped right in and was a force in the run game, really struggled at times in pass protection, and racked up 11 penalties on the season, so we know he has some vulnerabilities. This season all reports seem to be positive about the guy, but looking at the schedule this will be by far the toughest test for Sewell he has had this year.
As far as matchups go it will be very interesting to see how the Lions try and play it. They have a strong RT in Sewell, Ragnow is a veteran C and maybe a top 10 C in football, plus they have a solid vet LT in Decker. Their G play seems to be something the Cowboys can really take advantage of though. Jonah Jackson has not been a strong player in pass protection, and Logan Stenberg I know absolutely nothing about, but PFF lists him as a pass block grade of 0.7 which I'm not sure how that is even possible. Seems like those are the guys DQ needs to scheme to get 1v1 matchups on. This may be one of those games where DLaw blows up the stat sheet as Parsons takes the attention on the outside. Only thing I know for sure is the Lions only chance at not getting Jared Goff killed is going to be running the ball effectively. They get into 3rd and long situations I give the Cowboys a huge advantage. Detroit has some nice players but some really bad ones too on their line. They also have a solid group of receivers, but I find it hard to believe they can get away with going max protect either. They just dont have that elite guy, and have a pretty average QB to go with them.
