I remember the countless discussions prior to last year's draft, how Sewell was a generational talent and should be the Cowboys #1 player on their board. Nobody said that about Parsons and many thought Slater was a guard only. Sewell has been solid, but the other two were legit pro bowl players in their rookie seasons. What does everyone think about the matchup this weekend?

I was one of the most goal posters on the boards about Parsons being a top target. Thought Sewell was a stud but didn’t think he’d fall.

Both great ascending players and should be a fun matchup. I’m sure both will win reps.

I love Sewell, I think Tyler is poor man’s version of him. I think Parsons will line up on the right side but both will make plays. Armstrong and Sam Williams will have a big challenge.

I loved Chase, Sewell, Slater and the 2 CB.

I disliked Micah, Pitts and DeVonta Smith.

I was clearly an idiot with zero vision over Micah but got the rest pretty much correct. --viewed Micah as Jaylon Smith replacement not DeMarcus Ware jr.

Same thing as every week. No OT is going to stop parsons all game without help

He is Lane Jonson 2.0 but even better strength and speed.

Armstrong, Parsons and Williams will comprise a pretty stout and mobile bunch of defenders to challenge Penei Sewell on a regular basis. I think he'll have his hands full, with some fresh and quick youngsters testing him to the limits of his ability to contain them. At 6'5" and 335 lbs., good luck for Sewell to keep 'em at bay indefinitely. ;)

I've not watched many Lions games this season, but all reports are Sewell has been excellent this season. I think he still is a generational type of talent for Detroit, keep in mind this guy just turned 22 years old a couple weeks ago. Once this season is done he will have 2 years of NFL experience and be the same age as many of our draft picks in the upcoming draft. For that reason I think it is more than fair to view him as someone who has the ability to take his game to the next tier, maybe two.

Last year Sewell stepped right in and was a force in the run game, really struggled at times in pass protection, and racked up 11 penalties on the season, so we know he has some vulnerabilities. This season all reports seem to be positive about the guy, but looking at the schedule this will be by far the toughest test for Sewell he has had this year.

As far as matchups go it will be very interesting to see how the Lions try and play it. They have a strong RT in Sewell, Ragnow is a veteran C and maybe a top 10 C in football, plus they have a solid vet LT in Decker. Their G play seems to be something the Cowboys can really take advantage of though. Jonah Jackson has not been a strong player in pass protection, and Logan Stenberg I know absolutely nothing about, but PFF lists him as a pass block grade of 0.7 which I'm not sure how that is even possible. Seems like those are the guys DQ needs to scheme to get 1v1 matchups on. This may be one of those games where DLaw blows up the stat sheet as Parsons takes the attention on the outside. Only thing I know for sure is the Lions only chance at not getting Jared Goff killed is going to be running the ball effectively. They get into 3rd and long situations I give the Cowboys a huge advantage. Detroit has some nice players but some really bad ones too on their line. They also have a solid group of receivers, but I find it hard to believe they can get away with going max protect either. They just dont have that elite guy, and have a pretty average QB to go with them.

You missed on your opinion of Pitts. He is a beast already.
I stated he was a weapon but not a true TE and wildly overrated.
I didn't miss on him at all.
He can still row into Waller or Weddle but that will take him years of strength and technique development.
Silly analysts were calling him generational as a TE.

I saw his usage at Florida by % and how little he was in-line.
I rated him behind Chase as a weapon and didn't rate him in the top 5 when most had.

He's averaging 33 yards a game receiving this year.
He's currently rated 12th at TE but PFF with one of the worst run blocking grades amongst all TE.
So he can't run block and he is doing nothing as a receiver but other than that I guess your evaluation of him was spot on.

So this one worked out for us, and fans on the other teams forums are saying...we could have had Micah. As we get so much of that. And in hind sight, rightfully so most of the time.

I wouldn't have drafted him to play TE . I wanted him as a WR.

In the months leading up to the draft, I said that as long as Dallas was ok with Parson’s maturity, that I wouldn’t be worried about that.

I said I’d be fine with Parsons as long as they used him some as a pass rushing chess piece, because he just has a knack for getting to the QB in a flash. I said I did not want Dallas to take him if all they wanted to do was just stick him at off-ball LB and let him make tackles. I knew he would be good at that but those guys don’t really impact the game enough to use a (at the time) top 10 pick on one.

Not knowing Quinn’s play calling much, I worried that they wouldn’t use Parsons the way I hoped they would… but man was I wrong about that. They have deployed him in exactly the manner that I wanted them to. Lucky for us.

I was in the Micah fan club after the Cotten Bowl years ago. I knew they would not take Sewell because of Tyron.

Could you have imagined had Parsons gone too NY?

The reality is the 2021 Draft was one of the better drafts in recent memory.

Surtain had been a stud. Pitts has been fine but is limited by the QB play (still managed a 1,000 yard season as a rookie), Sewell is developing well, Micah is Micah, Weddle has been good, Jaelen Phillips had a great rookie season, et cetera.

I was pro Tackles, Sewell and Slater. Anti Corner Horn and Surtain. Parson's was my choice if they went defense (saw a highlight video on youtube and he just jumped out as special)
