The lack of situational football has lingered all season and it culminated in that play.

With 1:20 left and a timeout on their 20 yard line I wouldn't go empty because the clock matters and so does the fact that they get the ball to start the 2nd half.

2nd and short is considered such an easy situation in the NFL that teams usually try to go for big plays. “Moving the chains” isn’t the goal in that situation. The QB just made a terrible read.

The truth.......Dak and KMoore have to get in the "think tank" together......again. This funk is something that has to be worked out together.....close the door. The reading of coverages, timing routes, vision, drop back techniques, play preferences, plays that need to be scraped, disquising our offensive tendencies better, determining the offfensive philosophy that is compatible to our QB's strenghts.....then to the offensive unit, etc.

Both need to own up to their faults or disconnects. I can't think of another 7 year veteran that has regressed like this, given his current health. We can understand any physical limitations, but mental work has to be recovered. You don't lose it like that. And I don't know of any OC that has a 7 year veteran whose QB drops off like this before, as if he just got in the league. They have to get it right or somebody has to go. Dak and KMoore have been connected too long for them to be like this.

Kellen Moore absolutely has to go. He's just another Jason Garrett, a body they are training while not actually learning a damn thing from his experiences. Some of you may remember the 2020 season, week 17 game against the Giants. This was a game we had to win and also get help from the Eagles who tanked the night game against the Commanders.

We're down 23-19, marching down the field. Less than 2 mins in the game we are at the Giants 7 yard line and they have only one timeout. Perfect time to call a run, make them use their final TO, then call another run to milk the clock - right? Look at what Moore dials up on 1st and goal:

Any Dalton is sacked for a 10 yard loss on the play. And two plays later, being forced to now throw to the endzone from distance he is intercepted. Now look at what he called on that 2nd and 2 yesterday..this guy just doesn't get it and never will.

....that philosophy sounds like a team that is a pretender. No need to grab something that might not be there. Moving the chains brings time of possession in your favor. Gambling like that too cavalier will get someone fired, sooner or later.

LOL 2nd-2 allows you to open up the playbook. Didn't execute, plain and simple.
It isn't about it being a 2nd and 2, it is about the fact that you get the ball to start the 2nd half and have an opportunity to chew some clock there to ensure the Niners don't get another possession before halftime.

Shortly after the int, Olsen was commenting on how the Niners shouldn't have let 30 seconds run off the clock, however, they were playing smart football and making sure that they would get points before the half or no one did.

Little decisions and awareness like that are important in close defensive games.

I checked out years ago. I watch every weekend but I don't get too high or low. This year I actually went fishing a couple times and missed games. Much more enjoyable.
I don't think I missed a game this year, but I know in recent years I have, just from not caring enough to bother to make sure I know when the game is and turn on the tv.

This year was a better tease than most, because *sometimes* the offense looked dominant, and sometimes the defense. They'd be quite the team if they could get both pistons firing at the same time, and hopefully in the playoffs.

It's ironic that McCarthy himself won a couple of games from Garrett failing to burn time.

It's a different situation when you are in the RedZone with 1:25 to go in the half on 2nd and short vs when you are on your opponent's 28yd line with 1:15 to go. A turnover here puts you opponent in immediate scoring position or in a short path to it. It makes more sense to run in that situation and try and drain some clock. But I do see what you are saying, I just moreso agree with passing in this situation.

However, to the point of the play itself. The defense lined up in zone coverage, Dak really struggles with zone coverage. He hikes the ball, they are playing zone, the WR you are looking at is clearly covered and the route is compromised, and he forces it to him. I think he felt the pressure and forced it. He should have taken a sack or had been looking to run it himself as this was the most viable option, considering the play design was absolutely horrible. Like, Zeke on a wheel route? The nerve. Bad decision and dreadful pocket awareness along with bad play design from the OC.

It’s a defensive battle. ANY points matter in this game wether it’s a TD or a FG. Not to mention your getting the ball back at half. It’s a possible 10 point swing. Situational football….what the boys do terrible at.

No you don't. There is nothing wrong with passing the ball in that situation as long as you execute.

I was at the Tampa Bay game last week and you know what every Buccaneer fan around me was complaining about? PLAY CALLING!

According to them our defense didn't shut them down. Their OC was just calling all the wrong plays.

Fans are the same everywhere.
It’s always a good play call when it works
It’s a bad play call when it dorsnt
Not a fan of the overall play calling, or decision making by dak. A few plays can change a game. The pass to Gallup was a bad decision because you had a guy wide open but it’s a compnation if things that cost us the game and not just one play call

I get it. Probably not the best play call. But still, the QB has to be smart with the ball there. Such a killer turnover there. At worst, it's a 6 point swing.

It somewhat warms my heart seeing someone else's blood pressure go through the same roof, lol.
Go on TicTok. I saw several punch the TV and throw it off the wall. One person ripped it down threw in in the driveway and ran it over in his truck.

I’m like wow I feel better now……

TikTok is the only social media app I have on my phone (and what I waste too much of my time on every day :) ). I saved the driveway TV killer TikTok. Love it when his wife tells him that he almost hit her car with the TV when it shot out from underneath his truck tire. He didn't skip a beat replying, "Almost doesn't count."
