i wonder how they handled ADD, depression, not having a drug that cures 1 "problem" while only creating a few dozen more and all the germ killing salves we have now back in say 1735.

they didnt handle it,people died,doh.look at the life expectancy and the cigarette,alcohol and drug addiction,heck drugs were legal.what a moronic reply.wow.

That may be true of people being upset about a particular bad experience, etc. But it is not true of people suffering what is termed "clinical depression" - this is medical condition owing to neurotransmitter imbalances. This isn't about just wanting to take a drug to change your life -- this is about having serious chemical imbalance, that regardless of your situation, will screw you up.

I absolutely guarantee you that if you suffered from that sort of chemical imbalance you wouldn't be able to just "get over it" -- that is like saying "get over your cancer"

Real clinical depression is one of the most misdiagnosed conditions in existance. You're trying to compare depression to cancer? Please, do get a grip and some grasp on reality.

Unless you're a psychiatric professional that's had enough personal and professional interaction with Mr. Andrews to make an informed diagnosis, then you really don't have a semblance of a clue what you're talking about. And even if you were, when dealing with psychological disorders, there is always a high margin for error.

I don't think there's anyone alive (or dead) that's never gone through depression of varying degrees. The thing is, these days every one seems to think they can just get a prescription and it'll solve all their problems. The only way to get over depression is to decide you want to get over it and make the necessary changes in your life to do so. I'm not going to get into this discussion here though.

Im saying people abused drugs ,yes they were legal,read up.Morphine and coke were legal.People were depressed and used methods of self medication just like they do now but much stronger.The life expectancy is way way higher now then 1735.Depression of the clinical form is real and deadly sometimes and is a disease thats must be treated.

I really don't know why I'm trying to have an intelligent discussion with you, so I'll keep this short...

Plenty of people do cope with depression and live productive lives in spite of it. Plenty of people use it as a crutch.

Comparing cancer (which physically kills people) to depression is about as ridiculous as you can get.
