Man, I really hope Tony Romo plays!
The fact that Adam Shefter now sounds defensive and irritated when asked about Tomy Romo's status for Sunday versus Philly on SportsCenter makes one think that his reputation and career are on the line.
He is, like many others not named Jay Glazer (i.e. Florio, LaCanfora, Rappaport), more consumed with being the first to report a story rather than being concerned about the validity or verifiability of the facts at hand.
I think this one may blow up in his face.
Gone are the days of ethical journalistic integrity in the NFL Beat Writers and Reporters Society. And Adam Shefter sits at the head of that table.

Seriously, what is the deal with Shefter on this? I usually have a lot of respect for him, but he's coming off as extremely defensive and arrogant on this Romo story, IMO

Well, his credibility is on the line. He received a great tip and ran with it. His only flaw is suggesting Romo was out for season. He should've qualified it and just said Romo had the herniated disc and the chance of him playing again this season are slim.

But this is what happens when you speak in absolutes.

It could have been that he was working off the initial news. No telling how many further tests and opinions play into this.

Schefter has always been a little punk *****. All those guys are.

You have to be to do that job. You have to dig and pry to convince inside sources to leak confidential information. All of those guys come across a bit slimy.

Well exactly. Maybe next time don't report something from a source so definitely then. lol

I agree with your entire post. Except the part about Jay Glazer being by himself.
Every week I hear him referring to people by nicknames like this.....

I spoke to Foxy this week. (John Fox)

Shanny might go with Kirk Cousins the rest of the year.

They like when Kap gets out of the pocket (Colin Kaepernick)

I met with Smitty down in Atlanta (Mike Smith)

this kind of stuff is some of the most unprofessional "journalism" you will ever find. Is he a journalist or a drinking buddy with these guys?

Schefter will be right once again on this, because Tony Romo will not play on Sunday. Why is everyone so angry?

I find it really hard to care. No matter what he reports it's not going to change the situation. Either Romo can play or he can't. We'll find that out soon.

Don't you guys get tired of making villains out of the media?

Some of those guys in the media are villains no matter who they are covering. I bet most players can't stand when Ed Werder shows up to their locker room. He is a weasel.

Come on now you don't know that for sure unless you know them all personally? I heard Jay Glazer was a really nice guy among some of the others.
Jay Glazer doesn't build his entire career around trying to report things first.

Well, he was the one who broke the news, so clearly he was working off the initial information... Everyone else was following his lead.

Also, it doesn't mean he was wrong either. Cowboys weren't obligated to confirm or deny his info, which is why he's so defensive, because they won't. lol

I'm not going to make him a villain in this but I do agree with others how defensive he sound now about what he has reported. I think too often in the media be it sports or other news they are more interested in being first than they are about being correct. As Wodygirl said it would have served him better to report Romo injury and claim there was little chance of him playing as opposed to say he is out for the season.

Sure he does. As well as getting proper credit for it, too. If he doesn't get it, he and his followers will surely let you know on twitter, at least.

Absolutely. Also, if Romo actually does play, Schefter's early reporting actually helped the Cowboys by forcing Philly to game plan for Orton.

I wonder if there would be a 18 page thread on the Eagles board about how the media is out to get them if that happens...
