Still fighting the good homer fight, eh Doomsday? You telling anyone to "get real" is a riot.
Jones was lying and everyone (almost everyone, I guess) knew it. The point of the thread seems to be that Schefter jumped the gun, which he obviously did not. His report was 100% accurate. There was no shot Romo was going to play. And Jones knew it.

That is just absolutely, 100% false.

You've obviously never had a herniated disk. And you act like they give epidural shots out like they are party favors.

Schefter absolutely jumped the gun on the part where he said he was out for the season. It's as clear as day.

He was right in the end.

I'm not denying it.

I don't think anybody is denying it.

He was just reporting that the organization had ruled him out for the season. They didn't.

And they didn't stall. Epidurals can help with the pain of something like a herniated disc. In fact, they are saying that Dez had a similar problem, took an epidural and he is okay.

Believe me, if you ever hear the words 'you're going to have an epidural' you will want it to be for a GOOD reason.

This is standard procedure in a situation like this where somebody is hoping to avoid surgery.

Schefter was claiming that somebody told him that he was out for the rest of the season. It didn't happen. I would say 'shame on him.' But, you have to have shame in order to be ashamed.

I get what you're saying but what makes you think that someone didn't tell him that Romo would be out for the season? It would seem that someone did tell him that he was out for the season, otherwise, how would he have known about it? He was 100% accurate from what he had reported on Monday.

I get what you're saying, but what makes you think that somebody didn't tell him that Romo would be out for the season? It would seem to me that someone did tell him that, otherwise, how would he have known? Everything he said earlier in the week is exactly what happened.

Mainly going from other reports he has done on other teams in the NFL where he was wrong and it was obvious that it was something he made up.

Even still, going with 1 source telling you something and running with it like it is the gospel doesn't mean that it is good journalistic practice. You still need to vet that source and vet their story.

This is where the real downfall of journalism, particularly sports journalism lies (no pun intended). They will go with 1 source, regardless of the source and run with anything that 1 source tells them. Then when they are asked about it, they will say 'well that is what my source told me.'

Well, they never vetted that source.

And I can understand that sources sometimes lie to reporters or get their story wrong. But, it is still that reporter's story and they have to own up to the failures of the story just like they take credit for breaking the news. And one can only blame the source for so long. After a while they are either lying about the sources or they have zero credibility in finding good, accurate sources to give them information.

All of this with Romo is standard procedure for somebody with a herniated disk in this position. Players can play with herniated disks, it often depends on how much pain they can handle and how well they can move with that pain. I find it unlikely that any credible source would tell him that Romo had a herniated disk and was automatically out for the rest of the season. A credible source would tell Schefter the process which is what the Cowboys did. And all it takes is a medical professional to clarify whether this source is correct. We've had medical professionals on this forum explain this and tell us pretty much exactly what has happened.

So we have Schefter who has a history of wrong reports around the league with questionable sources who claimed that Romo was out for the season by a team source when he was not. For him to be '100% accurate' he should have reported that Romo has a herniated disk and that the team will give him an epidural shot to see how that goes and then decide from there and that he could very likely be out for the rest of the season.

That is 100% accurate.

The steroid epidural was most likely to reduce the swelling and spasms so the surgery could be performed sooner.

Yep just saw that has been placed on IR. Only good new Surgery was successful

how would they even remotely know if surgery is successful. You will have to wait for next season to know that.

Totally unrelated. A successful surgery means they corrected the problem with no complications with a good prognosis.

I work in hospital. We know success isn't known for months. What the OP meant to say it surgery went without complications.

That's what I said, no complications. It has nothing to do with whether his football game will ever be the same but there is a good chance he makes a full recovery to lead a normal life, that is all.

Are we really arguing over the accuracy of a story that turned out to be accurate? This is going to be one long off-season..................

Man, I really hope Tony Romo plays!
The fact that Adam Shefter now sounds defensive and irritated when asked about Tomy Romo's status for Sunday versus Philly on SportsCenter makes one think that his reputation and career are on the line.
He is, like many others not named Jay Glazer (i.e. Florio, LaCanfora, Rappaport), more consumed with being the first to report a story rather than being concerned about the validity or verifiability of the facts at hand.
I think this one may blow up in his face.
Gone are the days of ethical journalistic integrity in the NFL Beat Writers and Reporters Society. And Adam Shefter sits at the head of that table.

Those writers are no journalists. they are just sport writers. so i am not that angry that those people dont know about the fundamentals of reporting. There is a reason why they didnt become serious journaiists and have to earn their money with blandness.

what make me much more afraid is the same tendency in the so called serious journalistic world. People tend to believe what the media writes or shows them. They build their view of the world upon that. so wrinting stories with just your income in mind is not only irresponible its dangerous.
