Absolutely. Also, if Romo actually does play, Schefter's early reporting actually helped the Cowboys by forcing Philly to game plan for Orton.

I wonder if there would be a 18 page thread on the Eagles board about how the media is out to get them if that happens...

Schefter getting his palm greased by Jerry to report him out?

I like the way you think.

I agree with your entire post. Except the part about Jay Glazer being by himself.
Every week I hear him referring to people by nicknames like this.....

I spoke to Foxy this week. (John Fox)

Shanny might go with Kirk Cousins the rest of the year.

They like when Kap gets out of the pocket (Colin Kaepernick)

I met with Smitty down in Atlanta (Mike Smith)

this kind of stuff is some of the most unprofessional "journalism" you will ever find. Is he a journalist or a drinking buddy with these guys?

Jay Glazer is the epitome of smarmy journalist.. His whole schtick is about being the guy you want to have a beer with while he milks you for info. lol

To be fair to the little punk, he's almost always right on this stuff.

I don't know about that.

I have my bias since I stopped listening to him when he made up that nonsense about there being a 'schism' in the Vikings locker room when he claimed that the locker room was separated between players wanting Tavaris Jackson to start or having another QB start.

And that QB was Brett Favre.

Fortunately, it did leave with local Minnesota reporters laughing at Schefter's 'report' and Jared Allen making a classic quote about that 'report.'

But to me, it was either a lie that he made up or he did next to nothing to vet the story and his source which is almost as bad.

Par for the course with ESPN.

Sure he does. As well as getting proper credit for it, too. If he doesn't get it, he and his followers will surely let you know on twitter, at least.
Eh, maybe, I don't follow any of those guys so everything I say is 100% conjecture....actually I might fit right in.

Seriously, what is the deal with Shefter on this? I usually have a lot of respect for him, but he's coming off as extremely defensive and arrogant on this Romo story, IMO

He probably heard that Romo had a herniated disc and probably guessed that given it was a herniated disc and his past knowledge of herniated discs, that Romo was not going to be able to play.

The problem is that he tried to report it as somebody from the team telling him that Romo had a herniated disc and that person also telling him that Romo was out for the season. What he likely did (IMO) and what likely happened (also IMO) are 2 very separate things and lacks journalistic integrity. So now he's defensive about it because, IMO, he screwed up and people are calling him out on it.

It doesn't matter, outside of blatant plagiarism, ESPN isn't going to fire any reporters of Schefter's status for a lack of journalistic integrity. This is the same group that allowed Mitch Albom to come back. The same Albom that for years was criticized by other writers for making up stories and then eventually got caught in a lie, making up a story.

The distinction with Jay Glazer was consistent accuracy. Without citing specifics, Shefter and the others I mentioned are wrong often.

Well, his credibility is on the line. He received a great tip and ran with it. His only flaw is suggesting Romo was out for season. He should've qualified it and just said Romo had the herniated disc and the chance of him playing again this season are slim.

But this is what happens when you speak in absolutes.

Agree with this. I think he got a good tip and just ran with it. Didn't leave himself any wiggle room. Had plenty of time to revise his "report" when it became apparent that Romo was going to at least give it a shot - albeit unlikely.

I agree he does. He makes sure that when ESPN is reporting what he reported first, that it says 'Jay Glazer reports' on the scroll.

However, the thing with Glazer is he is extremely accurate compared to ESPN. Of course, that doesn't seem like much to brag about.

Why should people apologize? Maybe some should, but suggesting Schefter was being defensive doesn't really merit an apology, IMO.

He should be defensive when people are attacking his character or his professionalism, the guy was spot on and people should apologize.

I don't really care that much one way or another, but the OP was using the story as a jumping off point for the decline of journalistic integrity...

And for the record, I don't like Schefter's smarmy arrogance either. But I always thought he wouldn't have been so definitive if he weren't really sure. These guys aren't hacks like some people out there.
