Missed the first few minutes, not much to it.
  • On Showers: will play S, RB, WR, LB, QB - a lot to like about him
  • On RB situation: will evaluate weekly in practice
  • On Randle: no comment on his legal situation; getting ready each day, will be back Tuesday
  • On rotation: no pre-design on carry splits, bring Michael in and work this week, each gets a chance to prove they are worthy of the opportunities
  • "Lance Dunbar has been a very productive guy for us".

Dunbar has been a productive player for us? Doing what exactly?

Yes, that one floored me. Garrett got a little agitated when being questioned why no back has been designated the lead back a week before the opener. He just rattled off how they like McFadden and Randle, then he threw that grenade in there.

Well, he keeps the trainers busy for one, plays on special teams, vacates his lane repeatedly so that gives Bailey a chance to work on his form tackling.. he carries the ball once every 4 games to give the real running backs a breather.. all in all, pretty productive :)

This is all code for "We now have the bruiser we were looking for and those of you that thought you might have gone into the season with the upper hand this year will pay dearly".

What do you expect him to say? Put yourself in Garretts shoes first.

He could have other flimsy superlatives. But to suggest he has been productive is not really a genuine answer unless he has an odd view of what being productive means.

I'm confused by this one. Does he mean Showers will practice at all of those position against the 1s? S as in Safety?? LB too?

Dustin Vaughn was productive too. Productive is relative.

When given opportunities he has been productive.

Scout team. Will do a little of everything. Sounds like he will fill in and do whatever if they are short a body somewhere. Seems to think he is a good enough athlete to pull it off.

Garrett has been trying to be funny in some of his recent press conferences. He might have been intentionally exaggerating.

Garrett thinks Devin Street should be able to practice Wednesday. Sounds like the 53 is largely healthy heading into Week 1.

No word yet on whether the Cowboys will implement "Romo Wednesdays," or any other routine for practice. Still having those discussions.

JG says the staff has no intention of pre-designing a workload for RBs. They'll give everyone an opportunity this week. Including Michael.

Garrett says Dez is a full-go for this week. Also optimistic that Anthony Hitchens can practice on Wednesday.

Brandon George ‏@DMN_George 24m24 minutes ago
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett says new QB Kellen Moore "knows how to win." Will be on practice squad with QB Jameill Showers.

I just don't get why they keep Dunbar on the roster when it's clear they don't know what to do with him come game day. Maybe he'll be more involved this season but I don't see it.

The Dunbar comment is silly, but I can understand why he's aggravated answering the running back question so much. It's very clear – no single athlete has distinguished himself against the other, they are going to rotate them until either someone does, but I find the system that is productive. Any other answer would just cause controversy.
