I just don't get why they keep Dunbar on the roster when it's clear they don't know what to do with him come game day. Maybe he'll be more involved this season but I don't see it.

My honest guess I think they realize they're going to have to pass a little bit more, and they want somebody who can be electric out of the backfield. Whether we like them or not, specialty is catching passes and doing things with them and space. One of the underrated parts of Murray's game last season was that he caught about 600 yards worth of passes.

JAGbar is officially obsolete.

The two load carriers will eventually be DMC and Michael. Randle is that perfect hybrid change of pace 3rd down back that could also carry the load in limited capacity. They don't need JAGbar. My suspicion is they will hold onto him until they're sure about their new rbbc. There's also the very real possibility of DMC blowing a tire after 6 games or so. That's the only line of thought I can imagine would compel them to stay this course for an extended period of time.

JAGbar is a fortunate dude.

He went deep into the doghouse after fumbling in the KC game a few years ago.

I don't remember that fumble specifically. It is curious that he is seems to be held to a higher standard about ball security. None of our RBs of had great success at it.

Dunbar has been a productive player for us? Doing what exactly?

I don't care what anyone says, Dunbar is a real weapon, his acceleration is truly eye opening. I think he'll be given a bigger role this year and will do some serous damage.

Yeah, Murray picked up some good yardage on those dump offs, check downs. Hopefully Mcfadden can do some of that. was impressed with his quickness in viking game, granted only a few carries

Dunbar has had some good plays for this offense. Didn't he have a nice TD run last year when it was needed.
He has speed, can return KO's.
Maybe he can be that RB in practice to simulate other teams. Likes a Sproles type.

Same for Showers and Moore. Simulate different style QB's.

Need to look at the body of work as Garrett says. not just a few plays people cherry pick to make their case, or try to.
I been looking for the past few years to replace him. But I am not going to say he is a bum that can't help either.
After all what 3rd or 4th RB can come in here at this point and be better. As to knowing the system and the role that he plays.
He is on the team and I will support him and want great plays from him on his limited opportunities.

I'm confused by this one. Does he mean Showers will practice at all of those position against the 1s? S as in Safety?? LB too?

Means Moore will get primary reps as scout team QB. Showers will be Swiss Army Knife.

is there a tactical advantage to have a 4 deep RBBC? is it harder for a defense to plan against if you have to deal with 4 different backs?

I think it is a tactical disadvantage when your backs each have extreme strengths and weaknesses, but none of them are competent at everything. What Murray brought was consistency. He can do everything effectively, if not dominantly. It made it hard to know what you were about to do on offense.

Right now, if Dunbar lined up in the backfield along, you can play seven in the box. He may burn you on the screen or a nice run, but you're a lot less worried about it then if somebody like Randall is in. Vice versa, if Randall is in I'm probably going to load it in the box and blitz.

Dunbar is a guy who can come in a few times a game and make a play when the defense isn't focusing on him. The more he plays, the less you want him on the field.

i agree. good point there. this RBBC thing just seems very haphazard. i hope im wrong though. and if the point that the patriots have used one before with good success is what this organization is riding on than i can understand that.
