Dunbar has had some good plays for this offense. Didn't he have a nice TD run last year when it was needed.
He has speed, can return KO's.
Maybe he can be that RB in practice to simulate other teams. Likes a Sproles type.

Same for Showers and Moore. Simulate different style QB's.

Need to look at the body of work as Garrett says. not just a few plays people cherry pick to make their case, or try to.
I been looking for the past few years to replace him. But I am not going to say he is a bum that can't help either.
After all what 3rd or 4th RB can come in here at this point and be better. As to knowing the system and the role that he plays.
He is on the team and I will support him and want great plays from him on his limited opportunities.

Dunbar is a mediocre returner, does not play with fearlessness slow to get going after fielding and so negates his only advantage, quickness. And he is a scrub on coverage, not strong or physical enough to hold lane consistently. Not an in between tackles runner due to size limitations and aversion for physicality. Only area he has potential to excel are plays in space, whether running or receiving.

The specialists' specialist.

The Dunbar hate is confusing. He's just a dude.

The coaches look at what these guys do every day. And they look at what they do away from the ball like fans normally do not. And they look at the contributions of their down-roster backs on Special Teams.

To a coach, every guy they kept they kept because he was productive for them in camp. It shouldn't be any surprise that they think Dunbar is productive. You guys who don't like him because you were anxious about RB depth are just going to have to deal with him. He's going to be a role player again this season.

i agree. good point there. this RBBC thing just seems very haphazard. i hope im wrong though. and if the point that the patriots have used one before with good success is what this organization is riding on than i can understand that.

Just because it can be a disdvantage doesn't mean it can't be effective. Take what I said with a grain of salt. The purpose of the running game here is to get 3-5 yards every play. If they can accomplish that and set up conversions we are good

The secret of our offensive success last year was that we were able to convert our downs. If you can do that and prevent turnovers, points and wins follow.

I really wish Kellen would be the backup. I don't see how Weeden gives us a bigger chance at winning games. I get it if they want to keep him as a third guy to see if he ever develops (he's pretty old, but still fairly new to the NFL. Ehh), but I bet Kellen would give us a better chance to win than Weeden. I'm sure the weak arm would cause turnovers, but I'd be willing to bet he'd move the ball better

It's pretty obvious what they thought of our backs outside of Randle and McFadden, when they traded. He was probably annoyed by the obvious questions. That said, if they didn't ask, they wouldn't be doing their job.

Practicing hard each and every day stacking one good practice on another. Duh!

I actually think that's pretty close to what he's talking about. When you see a guy working every day, putting in long hours and running hard at practice. Working to learn the WR responsibilities and executing them on the field, to a coach, that's productivity. To a fan who measures productivity in catches and yards, it's not.

People feel better about the RB position now that their fears have been eased since the trade, so it's on to another target. If they cut Dunbar, had Trent Williams as the swing tackle and Rodgers as the b/u QB they would move right on to FS or 1T. If this team had 53 All-Pros they would complain because they win too easy. It's just the way it is.

Needs to familiarize himself with offense first. Linehan is running Garrett's offense, not quite the same as he ran in Detroit. Moore will push Weeden. Heck if Vaughan was pushing Weeden, then it really doesn't take much.

Not hate from me. I just want to win a SB. Get us the best most catalytic returner we can get. Dunbar is not that.

Garrett has been trying to be funny in some of his recent press conferences. He might have been intentionally exaggerating.

Seems like they like his athletic ability so maybe they are just trying to figure out if he could play another position
Maybe some exaggeration too
