Should Awuzie be fast tracked to start now?

Whenever Awuzie is ready to start, it'll be obvious to the coaches who will have the advantage of seeing him in every practice. I'm not overly concerned about it since Awuzie might quite conceivably push Carroll out of the picture as a starter after TC anyhow. Anyhow, the coaches will know what to do by the time preseason is history. May the best man win.

Awuzie or Jourdan will be the guy starting while Carroll is out. If they make enough plays then they must likely keep their starting job, as did Dakota, Collins and Brown

If he beats Carrol on the field then yes. Same with Lewis

DUI means nothing to me in terms of starting position

Yep, at this point draft position means nothing. As far as I am concerned play the best guys whether he is UDFA, 1st rounder or some drunkard. Awuzie and Jourdain are 2nd day and 3rd picks at that point it does not really matter but you need to hit on one of them.

We drafted what, 2, 3 safeties in 2009 when we signed Church as a UDFA.

Let's go back a year and not draft Dak because he got a DUI.
Nice, I agree. I am not that worried about one DWI it suggests very poor judgment at the low end of the BAC (.08)scale, but not a pattern and I am old enough to know the NFL is not played by choir boys each Sunday. I am disappointed and think he should be punished. If any other anomalies appear(or have happened) with Nolan than our plans need to be modified. Coaches jobs are on the line and I doubt they are willing to let a FA signing like Nolan Carroll drive the bus on their careers.

If you think, as bad as the secondary was, that every athlete drafted wasn't considerd a starter..... Dallas is doing it wrong. C'mon man. Depth charts don't exist, at least they shouldn't, prior to TC.

Carroll stinks AND.....just got busted. Boom......guess who just got bumped up in the " depth chart".

No the team does not draft players to come in and start their rookie season. You get them ready, let them compete and earn their job. The veterans obviously will have the upper hand given how difficult it is to transition to a NFL CB.

Regardless of what some fans think...this team does not think Carroll stinks in this system. This is the second consecutive offseason they tried to sign him. Most people who actually watch film believe he will be a good fit on this team and could be an upgrade over Carr.

Is this a pattern with Carroll? If so...completely different story.

Film? Is there something we should know about you?

Carr has set the bar pretty low......

If there was ever a time to walk into camp as a coach and declare there are no starters on this defense, this is it. Let the cream rise.

The point is the team is high on Carroll...they targeted him two consecutive seasons.

Not sure why there is such a debate over a rookie corner having to earn his job over veteran players that have matched up with the Odell Beckhams of the world...especially when two of those players have been on this team and know this system. Brandon Carr was not perfect but he rarely gave up big plays...give me Carr over a CB that gives up big plays every week.

CB is probably the hardest position to learn in the NFL besides QB...I don't want any rookie starting over a veteran because of draft status. I want them to earn it. Obviously Awuzi was drafted to play and start eventually for this team..that doesn't mean it has to be his rookie season.

With the Carroll DUI, and rumor of 1-2 game suspension perhaps to start the season, does the coaching staff start prepping Awuzie to start at outside CB by giving him more first-team reps in OTA's and TC over Carroll? Eventually going to be his job anyway, so maybe he should be prepared to start from Day 1 and not look back. Thoughts?

He's a second round pick, so yea, he should be getting the reps over Carroll, based off Carroll's play the last few years. To me the Carroll DWI cements Scandrick on the roster and opens the door a bit more for Marquez White

Next year your top 3 CBs will be Awuzie, Brown, Lewis. Scandrick and Carroll won't be on the roster.
I have to agree with this. I see Marquez White being that 4th corner. He will surprise people and help make Carroll and Scandrick expendable

I expect Awuzie to come in and fight for a starting job. In todays game with FA it is hard to give a young guy 1 to 2 years these guys are asked to come in and produce. Not just in Dallas but around the league.
