Should Awuzie be fast tracked to start now?

I expect Awuzie to come in and fight for a starting job. In todays game with FA it is hard to give a young guy 1 to 2 years these guys are asked to come in and produce. Not just in Dallas but around the league.

I expect the same. I also want him to fight for the job and not have anything handed to him because he is a second round pick.

Regardless...injuries and different packages will assure all of these guys get quality reps. I hope we go 6 deep at CB.

No the team does not draft players to come in and start their rookie season. You get them ready, let them compete and earn their job. The veterans obviously will have the upper hand given how difficult it is to transition to a NFL CB.

Regardless of what some fans think...this team does not think Carroll stinks in this system. This is the second consecutive offseason they tried to sign him. Most people who actually watch film believe he will be a good fit on this team and could be an upgrade over Carr.

Dak and Zeke say hello

Zeke was a fourth overall pick playing a very easy position to transition to. Dak didn't "win the starting job"...he fell into it and made the most of his reps.

Those two guys don't justify playing other rookies just for sake of being rookies. You need to earn your job.

He did fall into it, then earned every opportunity to start from then on. I believe that.

Maliek Collins was also a rookie starter.

Is this a pattern with Carroll? If so...completely different story.
I do not know his personal history,, DWI is serious even one instance should have penalties and as Cowboy fans we have all see the worst side of this indulgence. Time for a history lessons for the current team as most will not have a memory of the queasiness caused by Josh Brent and the resulting death of Jerry Brown. Dec 12th 2012 it seems like it was less time than this...

The point is the team is high on Carroll...they targeted him two consecutive seasons.

Means nothing. Other than the fact what Dallas had was intermediate to bad.

Not sure why there is such a debate over a rookie corner having to earn his job over veteran players that have matched up with the Odell Beckhams of the world...especially when two of those players have been on this team and know this system. Brandon Carr was not perfect but he rarely gave up big plays...give me Carr over a CB that gives up big plays every week.

I never debated someone earning a position. My comment is there is no depth chart and there shouldn't be at every season' beginning.. If he's better, he plays. Simple.

Big plays? You disregard all the intermediate plays that gets teams in the red zone and finally the end zone. They all matter.

CB is probably the hardest position to learn in the NFL besides QB...I don't want any rookie starting over a veteran because of draft status. I want them to earn it. Obviously Awuzi was drafted to play and start eventually for this team..that doesn't mean it has to be his rookie season.

NEVER disagreed with earning a spot. Never.

With the Carroll DUI, and rumor of 1-2 game suspension perhaps to start the season, does the coaching staff start prepping Awuzie to start at outside CB by giving him more first-team reps in OTA's and TC over Carroll? Eventually going to be his job anyway, so maybe he should be prepared to start from Day 1 and not look back. Thoughts?

Players get plenty of snaps in the off-season. It's not like QB where snaps in preseason games can be very limited for the backups.

What does fast tracked mean?

If he's one of the best 3 CBs on the team, then yes, he should start. If he's not one of the best 3 at the end of preseason, then no, he shouldn't.
It's all really pretty simple. I think every CB on the team is fast-tracked to starting if he performs, but you don't fast track someone to start when there are clearly 3 guys performing better than he is.

Let it play out. The best performing playmakers play, regardless of other issues.

Amazing how quickly we can get deep at a weak position in one off season isn't it, and I'm with you, I believe the sub packages offer starting gigs for all rostered DBs this year.
Looking over the roster, it seems rather obvious that this team will go deep with DB, contributors on STs will push the not so Lucky Whiteheads off the roster.

No. Nobody should be "fast tracked" to start. If he's capable of starting, he'll make it to the starting string. Otherwise, he won't.
