Video: Should Dak Prescott be concerned with Joe Milton joining the Cowboys?

Dak's contract has nothing to do with JJ and the front office sitting on $37M in cap space as of April 13, 2025.

For years the Cowboys have had a shallow WR room , RB room, DL room and seemingly countless other holes. All of which filled by aggressively using free-agency, which this FO refuses to do.
You cannot look at contracts as a 1 year scenario The problem with Dak's, CeeDee's and eventually Micah's contracts will come in the future when their CAP impacts all peak. That goes for Tyler Smith, Bland, and anyone else they resign to a big contract. The Cowboys tend to do back loaded contracts which is why Dak's CAP number was $90 million before another restructure. CeeDee's CAP number is $15 million this year but will hit $41 million in 2027. Dak's CAP number this year is $50 million after restructuring, but it's $74 million, $68 million and $78 million over the next 3 years. Dak and CeeDee alone will count more than $100 million against the CAP in 2027 and 2028.

You throwing the front office alot of bail. Every team in the league will have future cap hits on their star players, that doesn't stop them from team building through free agency.

Just a reminder, $37m in cap space is top 5 in the league.

There is only 1 team in the league paying their QB $60 million per year and only 3 teams paying their top WR more than $34 million. When Micah gets paid the reported $40 million, there will be only 1 team paying $134 million for 3 players. And what happens when they have to resign Tyler Smith and DaRon Bland? Smith will get $20 million and Bland might get another $20 million. That's $174 million for 5 players or 10% of the roster. And that's just for the avg salaries It does not account for their peak CAP hits later in their contracts.

I understand that CAP space can be created but it is a falsehood that the CAP does not matter. Paying all that money to 5 players will force Dallas to go cheap elsewhere.

Excuses. Other teams have and continue to find a way to sign talent, our FO can too. JJ has cried broke for 30 years.

Jeery is not signing free agents because he doesn't care to. No one is making excuses. My point is, the CAP matters and overpaying players impacts the rest of the roster.
