Should Dak run more?

He only needs to run when he needs to. If nothing is there, pull it down and get as many yards as you can. Mix in some rollouts, RPOs, and read options to keep defenses honest and respecting his ability. It's not rocket science.

First let me say that I think he should run safely more to say on that later
but when he's getting pressure or they're putting people in the Box I think if he takes off and runs, on purpose not just the the read option it could help get the offense going, and help on 3rd down converting third Downs.
Now on running safely there have been two occasions where he ran the ball well but was not safe.
one was last night when he ran right into the two guys and one of them actually flipped him over he didn't actually flip himself he could have got hurt .
the other was when he got his leg bent back behind him instead of trying to slide so I'm all for running more but he needs to slide or go out of bounds.
I believe it would help the offense especially early in the games.

Personally i think they need to modify the offense and get him moving in and out of the pocket... more west coast principles getting ball out quickly if doing drop backs / Shotgun + some zone read option mixed in.

This Monday night I believe they were on the 14 yard line when they ran the read option play Dak scored on. The fake handoff to Zeke pulled the defender who was in the lane; he went after Zeke and Dak didn't encounter another defender for almost 12 yards, until right at the goal line.

Here's about the only time last year we used the read option: the Bengals game. Note on this scoring play Dak gives Zeke the ball. The defense is going to remember that.

Then, later on in the game, they ran it again. The key defenders with a chance to make a play all key on Zeke instead of Dak. The defender with the outside containment takes just ONE STEP in the wrong direction, towards Zeke. But that's all it took.

We simply MUST take advantage of this. I hated how last year the Bengals game was the only game we seemed to make real use of this ability that Dak has making read option decisions.

As long as it's done inside the 15 yard line, with a chance to score, I say do it. Make defenses key on Zeke early in the game, then have Dak start keeping the ball.

Dak is the one player on the team that is irreplaceable. I want him to run occasionally to keep the defense guessing, but only if he can do so without taking big hits. Even though he is 240 lbs and solidly build to take some blows it's better for everyone if he avoids that. He's smart enough to decide what to do. I definitely want to see some designed rollouts though. Dak is awesome throwing on the run.

On those zone reads he needs to be consistent in running when the DE crashes down. He only started doing it right this past game. As long as he reads the formation right he should be fine and avoid big hits. He has excellent field vision. The block on the nearside DT is easy for the tackle and if the TE misses the block on the LB or the S comes up he can slide if need be.

The point is to make the DE account for him. If the DE crashes down he will have a wide open lane where the DE vacates. Throw in a pass option if the S sells out and you are golden.

I don't want to see that more than a handful of times a game but it is a weapon we should use. It's nigh impossible to defend.

I like the read option on the goal line, I like him running when the play breaks down
I would be very careful with designed runs when I look at who the next man up is

He does need to do more roll outs with pass run option. Hopefully pass, since receivers do break open when that happens. He is deadly accurate on the run. And if he runs he can run to the sidelines. the sidelines are his friend. And learn to slide would not be time wasted.

Save it for third downs and the redzone for the most part. One of the things I love about Dak is how smart he is about how and when to use his legs. Because of that I don't see this becoming a huge issue. He has to use all of his skills though. I like that he's more like Steve Young than Cam Newton.

Also instead of the read option, I would
like to see him take off from the pocket,
if there is a opening.
That will affect the pass rush, and frustrate the def.
There was one time late near the goal line and Denver set up wide and the middle was wide open, he could have jogged in for the TD. He should always have that QB draw option, especially in the redzone.

Yes, the Coaches need to have some designed running plays for Prescott to take full advantage of his skills. Not too many but enough to keep Defenses guessing. He also needs to learn the pocket. That's essential to his career and the Cowboys future.

Dak may have to run more just to get our offense going. Gives the opposing defenses something else to think about. His runs the other night sure perked things up.
Yep and he is not a fragile player...very solid. Don't want him to end up like Newton but this OL when they get it together should be able to offer good support. Play to your strengths. Prescott has good running skills. Use them but use them wisely.

Romo started to get beat up when JG tried to make him into a pure pocket passer. Moving Dak around makes him a less of a stationary target and keeps the defenses guessing.
Umm, no. Tony got beat up because he refused to give up on a play. I think the only injury he ever got in the pocket was the broken rib vs SF, the rest were on scrambles.

Yep. He does need to run more. Not necessarily designed runs, but he has good vision and can take advantage.

Rodgers is going to the HoF as a pocket passer but he's faster than he looks and makes a lot of plays with his feet. Not many people even think about that with Aaron but he makes a lot of clutch plays scrambling.

Just be smart about it. As Dak gets experience I think he'll be able to pick his spots more effectively.
