Should Darren Woodson be in the Cowboys Ring of honor?

It looks like safety is just a tough nut to crack when it comes to respect. Woodson was a 1st team All-Pro 3 years in a row. When you consider the short length of the average NFL career, it means that Woodson was the best player at his position for an impressive length of time. In history, only 9 safeties (icluding both strong and free) have accomplished the feat of 3 consecutive 1st team All-Pros. Only 3 are in the HOF.

Willie Wood
Larry Wilson
Nolan Cromwell
Kenny Easley
Ronnie Lott
Cliff Harris
Darren Woodson
LeRoy Butler
Ed Reed

I've read somewhere that Butler and Woodson tend to cancel eachother out -- both played at roughly the same time, for good teams, had good stats, and both had nearly identical probowl / all-pro numbers.

Without a doubt.

This and Kiff should be rolling film everyday on DW's performances to show our current safeties of how the position should be played.

Woodson was a good player. A good citizen. A respected Cowboy.

However he does not rise to the level of the Staubachs, Irvins, Whites and Lillys.

There is no dishoner in being a great player who does not get into the ROH.

Please keep the ROH special and don't open the floodgates to the Bill Bates of the world. Don't shoot, I half my pith helmet on.

No offense but Darren was much, much, much more than a Bill Bates.

If you don't see the difference between Bill Bates and Darren Woodson, you need to go sit in the corner.. and put a TV in front of you and rewatch some old games and see if you can start to tell what the HUGE difference was between the two players.

Interesting. But I have not heard this love lately.

From 2012: "I think Tony already is a better quarterback than I was," Aikman said. "I know how quarterbacks are judged, but as far as his play-making ability and the things that he is capable of doing, he is a far more athletic quarterback, capable of making more plays than I ever was able to."

He pretty much has the same individual accolades as Haley, so there's that. But since I think Haley is actually somewhat overrated, that would probably mean Woodson is borderline as well (in my book).

Haley was a disruptive force.

Woodson was a force.

Both count ... But I probably only out Woodson in roh.

Yeah I'm sure every time Troy looks at his 3 Superbowl rings or his Hall of Fame jacket he gets super worried and fearful of Tony Romo.

You are correct. I was just trying to point out he absurdity of how some hold up their icons as HOF and ROH material when they are not, be it a Woodson, Bates or even a Moose. Good players but not icons.

Then again, But there are some here who think Bates was the greatest secondary player to play the game. And Bates might not even have made some team in the NFL.

The point was not to compare the two. But to point out how some, including you, would hold out a favorite player as HOF and ROH material when in reality they are 2nd tier or even 3rd tier. But maybe it was lost on you. Maybe I half to resort to hitting people over the head with a hammer to understand a concept. . . .

It's called being humble. Troy A. does not need to trumpet his achievements. He's let his performance speak for itself. In a weak moment, Troy would also say jerra is the best owner in the NFL. But we know Troy is just being nice.

When a QB has 3 SB rings I guess he can afford to be charitable toward a QB with a grand total of one playoff victory.

Woodson is a top tier former Cowboy.. and he will be in the ROH.

I can't even wrap my brain around the idea Darren Woodson is 2nd tier anything. To me there are 5 no brainer ROH selections from the 90s before you can discuss any others. Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin, Allen and Woodson.

Haley and Deion at least warrant some debate because of the years played in another uniform. Those 5 guys were all time great players who played all or most of their career, including their prime years, as Cowboys.

The only thing that makes me question if Woodson will get into the ROH is that it would have been so fitting for him to go in with Allen and Haley a couple of years ago. They were all part of the great 90's teams so Woodson not getting the nod at that time makes him less than a shoe-in. If he was a no brainer selection he would have been in by now.

As for Deion if Jerry is stupid enough to ever put him in that would completely tarnish the Ring especially with Deion already being in the Falcons ROH. Jerry can't possibly be that stupid to add Deion who refers to the Cowboys as "your Cowboys" when talking with Michael Irvin about the team. Deion shouldn't warrant any debate for a ROH induction.

Haley is already in and shouldn't be because of spending more than half his career in SF. The ROH should be for players who were raised and developed by the Cowboys spending most of their career with the team. Until Haley got in only Chuck Howley started their career with another team but Howley became a great player with the Cowboys and will always been known as a Dallas Cowboy.

He should definitely be in the HOF! The guy was nothing but pure gold for us. He's underrated because Darren wouldn't shamelessly promote himself like some of our other players that would could compile a long list for. lol
