Should I be ashamed of this?

It would be a very foolish idea to wear Cowboys gear there.

First of all, you're there by "invitation" and it wouldn't surprise me if they turned you away if you were wearing any other team's garb.

Secondly, this is much different than, say, going to a game here in DC wearing Cowboys gear. At a game, it makes sense, since the Cowboys are actually represented on the field, and you're going to have about 20% of the fans there to have your back.

But at training camp, it's basically 99.99% Redsk*n fans, and you would be horribly outnumbered. You'd just be asking for a fight. Also, you don't have the security there to bail you out. I can't imagine that it wouldn't get very ugly if you tried that... even as big and nasty as you are, Hos! :p:
I consider what I wear to be my Freedom of Speech if it says something on the clothes or the cap.

I wouldn't have any issue with a Commanders fan at our Training Camp. What is he going to do? Reveal something that the films won't show?

I'm strange that way though. I've been on the sidelines talking to someone wearing an ASU hat. It isn't that big a deal.

I do get what you are saying about his personal safety. I figure if it is my time to go it is my time to go. Ain't skeert.

The only reason he shouldn't wear his Cowboys gear is because he's going to be working.

I'm not 'big and nasty', but I've never hesitated to openly disclose where my loyalties lie or root for my team while living in NOVA or DC...in any situation. He would not be asking for a fight ... any Skin fan that decides to make it his business is the one asking for a fight in my mind.

Commanders fans, in my experience, aren't typically the type of people to behave in the manner you're suggesting though IMO. I lived in northern VA and DC for nearly 20 years, all of which were spent as a Cowboy fan, and I never felt uncomfortable one time. Maybe it's just me though.

I live in Montgomery Co. and I wear my gear all the time with no problems. I talk plenty of smack regarding them BUMS too. I'm not shy at all to let them know about AMERICAS TEAM. I'm a courier for FedEx and I talk noise every step of the way and luv it. :laugh2:

Lmao...yeah, in the past I've been known to get a bit too mouthy for the liking of some skins' fans. I've usually been the one that probably deserves to have his *** kicked, but no one has decided to do it for me...yet.

...but that's only because I talk too much trash. Has nothing to do with what I"m wearing. ;)

Oh dude, I talk it all the time. My brother is redskin1, he'll tell ya, I ride their arse all the time. I can handle myself, I'm not concerned with nobody bothering me. I'm a big boy, I can handle them. Besides, they have Jim frickin Zorn as their HC, what could they possibly have to say..:laugh2:

I wear my Cowboys stuff all the time, and I don't ever have a problem with it. I agree that the Skins fans aren't thugs like the Eagles fans. I wear it on the street, I wear it to Skin/Cowboys games... heck I even wore my Cowboys gear to a Skins/Eagles game.

That said, I still would avoid wearing it to the Redsk*ns training camp. I think you're far more likely to run into the mob mentality there. I've been there several times, and it gives off a different vibe, I think it would be viewed as an open "F-You" if you wore it there.

And what's more, I don't think they'd let you through the gate. You have to get an invitation to get in, so I'm pretty sure they reserve the right to turn you away if they don't like the cut of your jib.

I may end up visiting Commanders training camp next weekend.

(GASP!)

My wife and I work for the same employer. She works full time, while I do a little work for them on the side in addition to my public relations business. She told me last night that our employer is a sponsor of training camp this year (I don't keep up with that stuff, really) and that the A/V department is going to Skins training camp next weekend to shoot some video. She asked if I wanted to go because they needed someone to help identify players and maybe conduct some interviews.

I'll probably go. Even if it IS the hated Commanders, it's professional football and it's pretty cool to go to camp for a day. As sponsors we'll probably get free food and such. If they give me shirts and hats or something, I'll just give them to friends who are Skins fans, or I'll sell them on eBay, or I'll burn them ... whatever mood strikes me.

Obviously I can't wear my Cowboys attire. It's a shame I don't have some very subtle pin or something. Any other ideas?

I used to have this Cowboy cap about 15 years ago that had DC on the front and a small star on the back.It was maroon with the bill being black. That would have been perfect as far as being low profile. They probably would think the DC stands for the District of Columbia.

Buy a Commanders ballcap, call Jerry, and become a spy.

(just don't take any video)

I Wear my Cowboy gear downtown all the time. And every day on friday I wear jersey over my work shirt to work. Shoot got my TO ready for tomorrow, of coure when I get to work i take it off and drape it over my chair or hang it in my cube(9-5 jail cell)) :laugh2:

I can honestly say I would and I wouldn't.

Let me explain.

I take nothing away from the team's that won NFL Championships. It is a Championship and no one can take that away.

However, I do place a lot more relvance upon the Super Bowl because it combined the NFL (later NFC) Champion versus the AFL (later AFC) Champion and a tournament to crown a true Champion.

The AFL kicked off in 1960. From 1960 to 1965 that means there were two leagues and two Champions. The Super Bowl kicked off after the 1966 season to crown an undisputed champion. They then created a playoff format.

In the early years of the NFL (1920 to 1932) the Champion was simply announced. There was no game to crown a champion.

Then from 1933 to 1964 they simply took the two best teams in the 2 NFL divisions and they played for the Championship. There was no tournament to crown a Champion.

In 1965 the NFL created the first tournament style Championship because the Packers and the Colts finished in a dead tie. They called the game to determine the winner who would go on to face the Browns the Superbowl. Yep, clear back in 1965.

Then in 1966 began the true Super Bowl with the NFL Champion playing the AFL Champion and there was a true tournament to find the Champion.

It was expanded after the 1970 merger with the creation of more than 2 divisions per Conference. It has evolved into the tournament we have today.

So yes, I do recognize those teams as NFL Champions because History says they are and I love and appreciate History.

But, it simply is not as impressive to me as the Super Bowl Championship and I would say this even if my team had no Super Bowl wins.

Why not? Because at what point do you draw a line for the NFL Championship? Yes, the Packers have 12 Championships, but 3 of them were simply awarded to them as the best regular season record before 1932, and 6 of them were a win one game and be crowned the Champion. Their 3 Super Bowl wins are simply more impressive to me than the other 9 Championships.

I put more emphasis on the Super Bowl because it is a tournament, and it is what has evolved into the grandest Championship of them all; in any sport.

So yes, I can understand why you count 1937 and 1942. I would still put more emphasis on the 3 Super Bowl Trophies than I do the other 2.

The NYG and the Cleveland Browns played a playoff in 58 to decide who would play the Colts for the NFL championship. The Giants had to beat the Browns in the last game of the season (Yankee Stadium I think) to tie the Browns and force a playoff. The Giants won then beat them again the following weak (handily) to force the Championship game with the Colts. That game is considered the greatest game ever played. At the time it was but that's just the rumor and not my opinion.

The Colts had to play GB in ???62 or was that 63 to decide who would play against the ??Giants or was that the Browns. Maybe the latter. This is from my memory of the games. I was a big Colt fan at the time (didn't become a fan of the Cowboys until 1964). That's why I remember it. The Packers won because of a FG that wasn't was called for them. Matte played QB for the Colts.

I'd bet there were more playoff games before then but I don't remember them. I'm not going to look this up so I can see if I still have any brain cells left.

No there is asolutely no problem with that thread starter. These guys are pros, they have talent that anybody can enjoy, even if it's the hated rivals. Now dont go cheering them on, just observe a pro and respect what they do.

I just moved to Richmond a few months ago (actually Mechanicsville). I know what you mean by living in enemy territory. It's actually hasn't been nearly as bad as living in Oklahoma City and rooting for anything Texas.

Come to think of it ... since I've been married ... I've moved to from Texas to Oklahoma to Virginia. Ugh! The things I do for my wife. :)

Before I made this last move I made a deal with the wife to get the Sunday Ticket. I am looking forward to that. I'm not looking forward to Monday night games ending after 1am. I hate living in the eastern time zone.

You'll get used to going to bed that late on Monday nights.

Change out the tomatoes on their burgers with salmonella tainted ones and jack up their training camp. Then you are a real fan. Hey, and I'll even visit you in jail.

In the words of the co-host of CNN's Crossfire, famed political consultant, the raging Cajun, Mr. James Carville: "Oh... It... We... have no response. That was perfect."

(Although the Packers DO have 12 total championships...I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin') :D

On a complete side note: Thank GOD the All-Star Break is over...what a BORING assed three days...for the love of Christ. And Training Camp is right around the corner...

And now for your enjoyment...Chris Cooley's wife:

Hmm, I used to know a guy named Christie married to a girl named Chris. Kind of wierd and irrelevant, but it seemed like a fitting place to add my pointless comment.

I told you so! Even attractive women farting and dragging
their butts over it can't improve the look of a Commanders jersey!
