Should Jimmy Johnson go into the Ring of Honor?

I would be fine either way. If he remained more loyal to the Cowboys post-coaching era, then I would definitively say he deserves it. Maybe he still regards them in sincerity but not showing it publicly, IDK. For his accomplishments while he was here, he should get in but I bet there than just politics involved as to whether he gets in or not.

And this coming from a person who is not a big Jimmy Johnson fan and fully believes that if Jimmy gets into the ROH, he would find some way down the line to take a jab at Jerry and come off as an ingrate. He really can't help himself.

SHOULD he? I don't think so. I don't think Haley should have gone in either.

WILL he? Probably.

To me the RoH should be reserved for guys who were Dallas Cowboys for the vast majority of their careers and are indelibly linked to the team. Hayes, Dorsett, Emmitt all played most of their years in Dallas and always considered themselves Dallas Cowboys. No one thinks of Tony Dorsett as a Bronco or Emmitt as a Cardinal.

Jimmy was key to bringing 3 SB trophies to Dallas but he wasn't here very long and hasn't really stayed connected to the team since he left. I don't think he considers himself a Dallas Cowboy.

Haley split his time between the 49ERs and Cowboys so I don't think he should have been considered,particularly ahead of guys who should have gone in a long time ago (Waters, Martin, etc.).

I am praying that Jerry never puts Deion in, that would really piss me off!

Johnson was the biggest reason for the success of the Cowboys in the 90's - period.

He should be in the ring but Jerruh and his massive ego probably won't allow it.

He took a crappy team and made it a winner and in less time that it took old Tom to be a winner.

Why he shouldn't/won't: His tenure at Dallas was extremely short (5 years) compared to the rest of the members of the Ring of Honor.


Why he should: He led the Cowboys to two Super Bowl titles - as many as Landry did in 29 years - and was a big reason that Dallas won its 3rd in four years.

I loved Jimmy and what he did for the Cowboys but I don't believe he should be a member of the ROH for some of the same reasons I don't believe Charles Haley should be a member. Jimmy was only around 5 years and left the Cowboys to coach another team. His departure was his own doing he wanted to go back to Florida and coach.

The ROH is a special honor that should be reserved only for those who spent the majority of their careers in Dallas. Jimmy should be honored for what he accomplished with the Cowboys but not as a member of the ROH.

I can't fault Jimmy for being at least a little bit bitter after all that went down. Build a dynasty and get told that 500 other people could do your job?

Even so, at least on Twitter, he doesn't really say too much bad about anybody one way or another. Seems to take the high road most of the time.

Although Jerry and Jimmy are friendly I'm sure Jerry still harbors some bitterness from the way the way things went down between him and Jimmy. Jerry's ego would never allow him to put Jimmy in the ROH he still thinks any of a hundred coaches could lead the Cowboys.

I read a thread once that said that the 1995 Cowboys team was 30% different, in terms of personnel, than the one that won the 1993 Super Bowl.

Which really means that two years after Jimmy left 70% of the squad that went on to win, yet, another Super Bowl was built by Jimmy

Why? The guy is a HOF player who was, arguably, the best ever at his position and spent more seasons of his career in Dallas than with any other team, IIRC.

No one has to like Deion as a person, but there's no denying the guy's talent. And, regardless of how much he runs his mouth, deep down, you can tell that the guy wants Dallas to win another Super Bowl. He's still a Cowboy in his heart.

The fact that Jimmy has yet to be inducted into the ROH is a pretty good indication that Jerry still has some issues with the way things went down between them. If Jerry was going to induct Jimmy into the ROH he would have at least done it by the 20th anniversary of the Cowboys first SB win under Jimmy it would have only been fitting. All the players that played a big part in those SB wins in the 90's including Charles Haley have already been put into the ROH. Jerry still wants most of the credit for those SB teams.
