Should Jimmy Johnson go into the Ring of Honor?

He'd have already been in had putting him there not directly conflicted with Jerry's agenda of taking credit for rebuilding the team in the early 1990's

It's ridiculous to say it was Jerry who recruited all those coaches, engineered all those trades, hoodwinked Mike Lynn out of all those draft picks, talked Casillas out of retirement, traded a weak-***** QB like Steve Walsh for real draft picks, scouted all those ex-Florida players, or rode his team hard when they needed it time and again.

Jimmy's charisma dominated all those other strong egos and created one of the greatest teams of all time.

It's a tragedy he didn't stay and win four Lombardi's in a row like everyone in the sporting world, fan or otherwise, knows he would have.

I completely disagree with that. He'll never campaign for it, but it would mean something to him if it did happen.

The guy coached the team to back to back Superbowl victories and left a lot of key people in place that allowed the team to win a 3rd in four years.

Tom Landry IS the Dallas Cowboys, and he went in posthumously.

So we were dominant for 3 SBs and a decade due to drafting, not coaching by Jimmy. Landry's team went to the playoffs 17 consecutive years!

I would be sick to see Jimmy up there with Tom; he can wait and go in posthumously as well, if at all.

This is actually a tough call IMHO.

Jimmy was a great coach here and built a short-lived dynasty.

My only issue is his lack of commitment to the Cowboys. He couldn't leave Texas fast enough (even though he was born and raised here). A Ring of Honor recipient really should be a long-time organizational standard. I wouldn't have added Haley even.

I'd much rather add 70's Cowboys who were here 10 years than a coach who was here 5 years and only ever had 3 winning seasons BUT 2 monstrous SB titles.

All that said he really re-built the brand and the mystique. He basically invented swagger both at Miami and here. So he represented that era so well even if it was for such a short period of time.

I'd lean to yes but not up next. May need to see Jerry win a title sans Jimmy influence to ever see Jimmy get in.

I respect your opinion, but find it utterly ridiculous. Landry was alive and well when inducted into the ROH. Schramm went in posthumously. In any event, Jimmy Johnson belongs in the Dallas Cowboys ROH because of what he did for the organization. Landry's greatness does not erase what Johnson achieved. They should both be in the ROH. My only problem is that Johnson has distanced himself from the organization a bit too much for my liking. I realize Jerry's presence is a factor, but Johnson could have at least appeared at the Hall of Fame ceremonies for the players who helped him prove his own greatness.

I predict that what Jimmy did will never be repeated by a Cowboys coach ever again. He drafted, assembled, and coached an "all-world" team that won 2 back-to-back Super Bowls with him and that team won a third (even with "Jethro" coaching and eating hotdogs on the sideline).

I don't have a problem with him choosing to leave. We don't know what went on behind the scenes. What bugs me is how he has literally stayed away from all things Cowboys. Ultimately, that is his choice too, but it sort of bugs me.

I do agree with one thing he said there should only be one head coach in the ROH and that's Tom Landry. He dedicated 28 years of his life to the Cowboys and never walked away from the team. Jimmy never stayed longer than 5 years with any team he coached.

He left the Cowboys because of his own doing. I appreciate everything Jimmy did with the Cowboys but to see his name along side Tom Landry in the ROH wouldn't set very well with me. A player or a coach has to put in more than 5 years to get into the ROH in my opinion. There's other ways Jimmy can be honored for what he did in Dallas.
