Should Romo just retire?

If he can't make it through another year then yes he should strongly consider it. For his sake and the teams. Dallas needs to build for the future without Tony and the sooner they start the better. Ignoring the future and just plugging holes to get an injury prone 37 y/o QB a chance at a ring is short sighted and irresponsible. He needs to stay healthy and play at a very high level for me to be on board for another romo run in '17.

Romo is like General Custer or the Captain on the Titanic.

A great warrior prepared to fight until his last breathe or the ship goes down.

one of the toughest players in the league and this is the umpteenth time i have seen one of the fans on this site call him a china doll or made of glass.

So sad. Ten years of qb play and taking every hit and getting up and this is how fans treat him towards the end of his career.

These I imagine are the same people that booed Troy Aikman at the end also.

Selfish fans who lack appreciation and understanding. I also assume the same people who have doubted him since day one will now be using this to attack him also.

Sorry group of fans.

Oh don't preach to me about the wonders of Tony Romo. Believe me I know. You'repreaching to the choir. Your response lacks awareness of my history on Tony. Not that you should know my history but let's get real. I defend Tony all the time. Tony is one of the toughest players in the leaque I know this. He played with a lack of on o-line and defense for years I know this. This has contributed to his injury history. I know this. I hope he makes it 16 games this season. Donot act like I want him out. Please don't confuse me with posters you have seen in the past that ridicule tony at the drop of the hat. But the Seattle Injury to him was I'm afraid felt a bit too foreboding. Like no way!!! You can't tell me defenses aren't going to scheme with this in mind more so than usual. And with Tony's history of refs not calling roughing the passer or protecting him like the other star QB's they protect this has a strong tendency to get messy. Tony is one of the most underrated players of all time. I understand he gets no respect when he full well deserves all the respect. He is made of Glass now because of how the refs treat him and because of how the FO treated him giving him crap protection and a crappe defense for years.

aind big dog24 is right... fans are calling it as they see it. it would help him to learn to throw the ball away and live to play another down since he is the way he is now and defenses are scheming with this in mind. his propensity to be a wild scrambler is still in him but physically he is not the same anymore. you can't deny this. i wish i was wrong.

to add to my previous post (time limit to edit exceeded) .....

i love Romo. To me he is on the level of Dan Marino. Elite but never won an SB type of QB. I own 2 Romo Jerseys. I dont just buy anyones jersey. I also own 2 emitt smith jerseys and thats it. No one else. When anyone talks smack on Tony I am there with the Tony Romo Gospel ready to dispel the haters. But it is what it is now. If he goes 16 games this season (or more! lets hope!!!!) without being taken out or injured, or hell maybe just out two games and thats it, I will be very very very surprised and this will only add to his GREATNESS. Indeed.

my favorite Tony Romo move was the Romo Spin he put on JJ Watt to end up throwing a TD. This FO has severely messed up his time with this franchise by not giving him a decent defense and o line (early on) to work with. No elite QB can go far with the crap Tony was given in his history. Anyone else would have retired already.

Romo's body is breaking down even when he jogs onto the field for a series he looks like he's in discomfort. He can't take much of a hit anymore, it's not if he gets injured this season it's when and for how long.

what is wrong with this fanbase?

horrible fans.

I think an argument could be made that they care more about his personal health than they do whether or not the team has a modest amount of success.

Why the heck would he retire now?

If last night was anything more than a preseason game, he would've went back in. It's not like they carted him off on a stretcher?

What a dumb thread.

He'll retire when he's ready to. That decision is up to him and his family, and probably with input from his doctors. We as fans have no basis to declare when he "should" retire.

This is so off base it's laughable. If you've been paying any attention at all you'd realize that all they've been doing is building for the future.

I wish I knew how to locate this fantasy land that so many of you guys live in. Unreal.

Totally agree. Cutting a Pro Bowl QB on a playoff caliber team and throwing a rookie QB to the wolves isn't "building for the future". Its a different phenomena called "smoking crack".

It's truly beyond ignorant for a fan to believe that they know what's best for a professional athlete that plays for a team they follow.

There is a TON of information that we as fans are not privy to. We don't have access to his medical records. And even if we did we're not qualified to evaluate them and make a determination. So to say with such conviction that this man should retire is silly.

do you honestly or for that matter do many here really think he is going to last all season?

They won't like that you are saying this.

I use to love Romo, I now see that he has peaked, and is one good lick away from screwing us.

He needs to just hang it up.

Truly unbelievable. Any fan saying that we've been "ignoring the future and plugging holes just to give a 37 y/o QB a chance at a ring" has literally no idea what they're talking out. We've been doing the EXACT opposite of that for like 3+ years now.

Never wasting money on enticing over priced free agents.

Lots of premium picks spent on O lineman who we are now strategically locking down.

For crying out loud we just spent our 2nd round draft pick on a guy who we KNEW couldn't contribute immediately, because we think he'll be a big part of our FUTURE!

No one is disputing Tony's talent on the field, but if you can't see a QB who is one good hit away from being knocked out for good....I dont know what to tell you....there is a difference between torn ACL's vs Back Surgeries, broken ribs, collarbones x3, and concussions.

broken ribs ad collarbones really don't belong there.
back issues (he has) and concussions ( he doesn't? yes.

can someone list Tony's injuries?
a cliffnotes version if possible. It is really astounding how much he has been through and he is still at it.

Any other QB would have probably given up or retired already. I am glad he hasn't. He's book in the NFL is still being written. Granted this book has a chapter on his injuries and his battle through them but he is still going.

Tom Brady or Payton Manning would have deuced out already with the lack of an o-line (early on) and horrible defense Romo has been given for so many years.

But this injury or hit he took last night (with him wincing on the ground) is just really strange. It's like he is more prone or a lighting rod for this stuff. I don't know how else to explain it other than that he is a broken QB (because of his history) or that the Gods are playing a cruel cruel joke on us all. Very freaky or par the course?

Oh okay, so you're guaranteeing that the next "good hit" he takes will end his career??

You realize how dumb that sounds?

You don't know how he feels. You're not his doctor. Stop stating your uninformed opinions as though they're gospel.
