Should Romo retire?

Tony has taken a beating over his career; not David Carr bad, but bad.

He has had two broken collar bones, broken ribs, cracked vertebrae, ruptured disks, punctured lungs, Brittany Spears crabs and forced to have Free Reign on his iPod so please his line.

The question is at what point does all this become less important than the quality of life? He is really going to suffer as he gets older.

If he feels like he should then he should which I doubt he does and we really aren't in the position where we planned for the day he retired

He's going to ride this out as long as we have the talent to make some noise. We're only going to get better over the next couple of years. I expect him to hang it up if it's looking like we're going to have a handful of down years again.

The vast majority of NFL players have an extremely high pain tolerance or they wouldn't have made an NFL team in the first place . Romo proved years ago he will take a beating and do everything humanly possible to play again.

The Washington game injury several years ago comes to mind when Witten had to carry him to his car once the team plane landed back in Dallas.

Romo just led the NFL in passer rating, Comp %, and yards per attempt....and has led the team to 16 wins in the last 20 games that he started.
He's getting hit less now than in the past.
No way he's retiring with the team they are finally building.

Assuming he's back after 8 games, it's truly not out of the question that Dallas ends up playing in the Super Bowl this year.

If I were him, I would have retired in 2006. Dude just isn't cut out to be an NFL quarterback.

I can forsee 2017 potentially being his last season; in the offseason that follows, his dead money is <$10 million.

That being said, I don't think anyone can argue that it might be time to burn a 1st/2nd day pick on a QB and try and do this right instead of praying that another UFA/late rounder is going to be the answer.

I don't know. Once I learned of the injury, that thought crossed my mind. That he would retire. He's getting abuses to much, and getting older.

We shall see. It's a shame because our D actually looks good this year. Sean Lee makes a difference.

He didn't appear to be in pain when he returned to the sideline. This current injury is unlikely to cause him any long term issues.

If he has another significant back injury, then it would be a different story.

That's been in the plan, IMO, all along.

Well, the last couple/few years. Ever since jerry's been sat in the corner.

He needs to learn to not try and save EVERY play.

He's gotten better at that but it only takes once to be disastrous. Unfortunately.

In my agony I was shouting at the TV and blaming Romo for putting him self in position for that play to go down like that. I would have liked to have seen him chuck it out of bounds, or like another poster mentioned, just lay down like he (frustratingly) did a number of times last year. Just goes to show, it's pretty easy to be right all the time from the couch.

And to answer the original post, no it is not time to put Romo out to pasture. When Romo says it's time, it's time. He's an incredible human and competitor, but he'll know when he's finished and time to hang em up.

I'm wondering if Romo is becoming Fragile. Romo lovers chill out.. I'm saying is he taking hits that a younger QB would shake off but to him is like being shot..

You draft Romo's replacement next offseason, but you do NOT actually go replacing him yet. I'm much more confident with Romo grooming a backup.
