Should The Cowboys Cut Jenkins?

You give him another chance, fine.

I would've cut him after the GB game because this is the 2nd time now to flat out quit on a play ('08 vs. Giants). I also heard that he slacked off his training last off season, it's certainly showing. I think he's a really immature guy.

To each his own.

Indeed.

I've never heard anything about him slacking off in his training, but if you have a report on that i'd like to see a link.

I agree he may still be an immature guy, but i've seen the effort on the field from him, so its hard for me to think he's not putting his all into his play. I just feel that you simply don't cut guys with the kind of talent that he has, especially when he's still maturing and still has alot of untapped potential. He just needs to be coached up and needs some help on the back end. Better safety play and a revamped pass rush will help all our CB's look better.

Actually i believe the very next week a Jacksonville DB did the same type of thing. Not sure of his name, but it was all over NFL Network during Gameday Final.

Either way, what's the difference between giving half hearted effort or doing what Jenkins did? Either way you arn't giving your full effort into making the play. Equally unacceptable imo.

It was one play. As i said, Jenkins has given just as much effort if not more than the rest of his defensive teammates all year. People just need to move on and realize CB's don't give their full effort in making tackles alot of times throughout the course of the year. Just let it go. It was a mistake, he admitted it, took the blame, has given good effort the rest of the year, lets all move on.

Edit: Also, since that play, Jenkins hasn't even been one of those "Deion" type tacklers. He's been sticking his nose in to help out stopping the run just as much as Newman. Again, he gives good effort. It was one play, mistakes happen. They shouldn't sometimes, but they do. Lets not dwell over it or blow it up into some huge deal. He's a good player who's had a bad year, but has kept fighting and playing hard for us. He'll improve next year im sure.
I'll definitely agree he started showing more effort after that. IIRC he forced a fumble the very next day. But then again his pride had been wounded, so he didn't really have any choice. Hopefully with Garrett around he keeps putting out the same level of effort.

I think he's refering to what Jenkins said in the off season about having made a Pro Bowl, so he didn't have to work as hard or something like that. I think the way he said it though isn't as bad as I made it sound.

Now clearly Mike Jenkins has been nothing short of awful this year. Missed assignments, poor coverage, poor tackling, poor effort, penalties you name it he's just had a bad season. While he wasn't as bad this year in his rookie year he still didn't play that well. Their was a play during the Green Bay game in which Jenkins essentially quit and let a Packers reciever score. Some called for him to be released then. It's not a matter of talent I think he is talented it's just about putting that work in and becoming a better football player. He had a great year last year and made the probowl. He wasn't great as far as locking his reciever down but he wasn't terrible either, he made big plays for us as far as interceptions last year Jenkins had 5 on the season. This year he only has 1 interception. He's a big reason the Cowboys secondary has been just awful argurably the worst in the league. The question becomes do you cut Jenkins or hope he has a bounceback year in 2011-2012 if there is football next year?

Yeah lets do it since we're a rebuilding team!! Hey throw d.ware and romo in there to!!! Get a grip, think before posting!!!

Oh wow.. that quote haha.

If that's the basis for some here thinking he didn't work hard this offseason, that's pretty lame. It was a comment that got taken the wrong way out of context and he explained what he meant later. To say that a comment he made means he didn't work hard in the offseason is weak sauce.

Unless there is some other report or something that i missed.

Honestly though, even before that GB play, i thought Jenkins always gave great effort in coverage. He's a guy who always seems to be with his man and flying around out there. I think he may have focused on run support more after that play, but his overall effort has always been good imo.

What is your problem? Just answer the question if you don't like the thread then why post in it?

Because it takes up valuable real estate on the front page. Would you like it if everyone else posted nonsensical threads and prevented good discussions from occurring? No, you wouldn't. Why do you think your nonsensical thread warrants an exception?

I don't know what his deal was this season, but he played poorly. Last season he was a top 5 corner IMO.

I will say someone made an interesting post regarding him one time. Ever since college his good years and bad years alternate. He's never had back to back good years, or back to back bad years.

Well, there wasn't much time left to do it, but I have to credit the OP with creating the dumbest thread of the year.

Just one question for you:

U Mad Bro?

Can someone name me one play this year where Jenks missed the assignment?

And by that I mean, the blame can be fully assigned to him with no conjecture.

I actually think he's been decent in coverage this year. I'll take a player getting beat by inches as long as he's been in position. I just think he's had things go the other way for him this year and some hard work can put him back in position.

He's still a very poor tackler and needs someone to work with him on that urgently. I've only noticed 2 plays in his career where he didn't put effort as a tackler. They're obviously 2 infamous plays that some fans are passionate about because they both came in embarrassing losses that amps up the hatred in some fans but I don't see it on a week in week out basis.

He's still a very good corner game in game out. People can say he gave up 200 yards to WRs in back to back games but he only gave up one short pass to Jackson that unfortunately went the distance. And for most of the snaps against the Colts, they were in cover 2. He gave up the big play on the post route where he was in position and a perfect throw beat him but the rest of the plays were in cover 2, including the TD where he still got his hands on the ball to tip it.

i know.

i see stupid people.

they don't even know they're stupid...

I'm wondering what goes through someone's head to start a tread like this?

Is it a masochist mentality?

Is it a total obliviousness to reality?

I dunno.

Maybe we should invite Jane Goodall in to study the species.
