Should the Dallas Cowboys trade Zack Martin before the trade deadline?

Though I would say Jerry hasn't been a total doofus regarding players like Martin, I have watched some of the Jets games this season, and much as it pains me to say it, not re-signing Tyron Smith was a good decision. Smith's looking very old and slow, at least in pass rushing plays, speedy pass rushers blows past Smith on a regular basis.

Of course, the point is that he should have been traded a couple of years before this one, and in that regard it's just more evidence of Jones' failure as a GM...

Never happen. He's a Jerry beloved. It won't even been a consideration. He's family at this point and it's a family entertainment company, not a legitimate football organization.

This was what Belicheck was good at. He had a way of trading aging vet players away at the right time. And got a good player and / or draft capital as well.
Of course it helped they were coming off of SB wins. So those players seemed to have some quality playing time left in the tank.
Belly traded them away while they were still good. Very tough to make those decisions.

Last I heard wasn't he thinking about retiring anyway? Doesn't sound like trade bait.

His trade value is probably a 7th that can become a 6th under performance and playtime conditions. He is a 1 year rental playing at an average level this year with a great past.

The only positive for the acquiring team is that he has a low salary so you might be able to push it up to a guaranteed 6th.

Zack is retiring after this season, he wanted to retire after last season.
I really believe he’s already retired mentally

That’s what I mean. I’d try to deal from a strength and fix a weakness, but I don’t at all think the powers that be value interior defense so it’ll never happen.
You don't want to get rid of a quality corner and then have issues stopping the pass, Bland last year got lit up late in the season. This is the year to draft a DT, but you know how this franchise works, they will draft another skilled positional player!

This article makes a good argument why now is a good time to trade 9 time All Pro and Future 1st Ballot Hall Of Fame Right Guard, Zack Martin...

What say you?
I don’t think it makes a good argument at all.

It leaves out the biggest issue with trading him - the cap ramifications.

POST-6/1 TRADE

2024 Dead Cap: $13,750,000
2025 Dead Cap: $26,460,000
2024 Savings: $1,750,000

This whole season should have been about selling off players for picks. Too late now to make any difference with the remaining pieces we have left. The more they stink out the joint, we won't get anything for them, either. It's Super Bowl through the draft alone or bust for the next 5 years. Just the way Jerry and Cap Boy like it.

If you can get a 3rd round pick for Martin, yes! Trade him. If not, keep plodding along and see if the OL improves.
I'll be shocked if Martin doesn't call it quits after this season.

Zack Martin was a real baller for the Boys, but it's time to get Younger and Cheaper at that position. The Cowboys aren't going to flex any muscle in 2024 so call it a year and stock up on some draft capital to start the rebuild. The Cowboys spent a lot of their Cap Space on two players and it's time to trade or release some of the dead weight on this team that isn't producing and unfortunately Zack falls into the dead weight category, plus Father Time and Injuries are starting to take its toll on Martin ALL PRO abilities. I would also put D-Law in the Dead Weight category too, he's another who has lost a step or two and rarely parties with the QB anymore which is a huge burton on Parsons play lately. Time to get YOUNGER, which allows for more added Cap Space that can be used on a game changer or two.................
