Should we be worried about Tyron?

Where was Miles Austin in 2008?

LOL! What? What does this have to do with anything? A guy who couldnt get off the bench last year has no business abusing the teams starting LT if that is in fact what happened. Comparing a WR from D3 to first round OL from USC is so over the top.

My point was that just saying, "X s better than Y, so we should have drafted X" is too limited of an analysis. You have to take into account position value, and regardless, it's too early to make a call. For example, if Smith develops into a Top 5 LT, then I think he was a better pick than Watt considering the value of his position.

Watt's the reigning DPOY and arguably the most dominant player in the league, regardless of position. Tyron's done ok, his potential is where his value is at... but at the moment he's still an inconsistent tackle and has a ways to go before he's considered a top 10 LT, let alone top 5.

At the moment, there's just not much of anything one could argue that Tyron was a better pick than Watt. It was the definition of a NEED pick.

Did you even read my post? Because it obviously had nothing to do with making the call "at the moment."

Any possibility that the team was right about Wilber?

Also maybe Tyron isn't that great of a practice player.

Either way its still too early in camp to make any judgments.

Unfortunately, most of us choose to base our opinions on what has happened.

Ugh, how is this difficult to understand? How is my opinion that it's too early to make a call suddenly misunderstood to mean "Smith was the better pick.'

I don't get all that worked up reading about Ware abusing him but Kyle Wilber (a backup playing end for the first time) is beating him consistently I worry a lot. To be honest I have expected much more from him. He needs to start shutting people out

They run a lot of pass rush drills where the DLinemen have a distinct advantage. I saw Wilber making some moves in these drills that would be disastrous if there was a delayed hand-off or if the QB rolled out to Wilber's side. This drill made it appear that he beat Smith, but Wilber can't make that type of move in a real game. There is a threat of a run or QB roll-out in real games.

Because anyone being honest with themselves would rather have Watt than Tyron.

Not true. anyone being honest would remember how bad this O-line needed to get re-built and they remember that Smith was the highest rated lineman available. People would have been climbing towers and jumping off if the Cowboys had cut 3 starters from the O-line then drafted a D-lineman with the first pick.

That's probably true, particularly since we moved from a 34 to a 43 where DL are even more important. He would be dominant as a 3-tech playing for Marinelli and Kiffin, and extremely valuable.
That doesn't mean T Smith isn't a damn good player, because he is. His mobility at his size and his natural strength is very, very good. He's going to be fine.

Pretty much any OL draft pick will compare poorly to Watt though.

lol, like I said... anyone being honest with themselves.

I am being honest. I'm honestly the type that doesn't like to make overarching determinations without sufficient evidence. Apparently you are, and that's fine. Just don't pretend like you can speak for me.

There is sufficient evidence to say Watt is a better player than Tyron; see 2012 season.

Austin came off the bench and dominated the league...

The analogy works even more in my favor. Kyle Wilber was a 4th round draft pick compared to Austin who was an undrafted free agent.

For Wilber to have any sort of success against Tyron Smith shouldn't be too read into, especially if Wilber turns into a player.

It's like saying why was DeMarco Murray able to light up defenses his rookie year... I don't see where your logic comes from.
