And Newman isn't any one of those guys.

No one knows how long Newman will last. His body could break down shortly after the 30 barrier.

Or he could go on to have a longer career. Brining up CBs who have gone on to play long is irrelevant because everyone's body makeup is different. Those CBs have no effect on Newman's career.

Anyone recall why Newman didn't graduate until he was 25?

I'm not sure on that. He was born in Sept. 1978, but didn't graduate HS until he was 19. He went to K-State in 1998, was redshirted and played 4 years following. So he was there 5 years. He was drafted at 24, 25 by the beginning of his rookie season. The only thing I don't know is why he didn't graduate HS until 19... he may have flunked a grade or been held back, etc.

In some HSs it isn't unheard of for a kid to redshirt - sounds like in both HS and College they were looking for Newman to develop a bit more physically.

This has probably been said in this thread but football is not really about your age but more about wear a tear.

He didnt play a lot of football in highschool and didnt play in college until he was about 22.

Newmans got a lot left in him. A lot.

For reference, Darrell Green played until he was 42 (20 years). So it's not a stretch that Newman could play in his early 30s. Let's worry about our other corners before letting our best one walk.
:hammer: Newman is also known for being a gym rat and is always in tip-top shape so comparing him to Darrell Green is no stretch by any means. We'll probably sign him to a 7 or 8 year deal.

I still can't believe I read that this morning.

I hear ya. IMO, Newman and Ware should be the only 100% untouchable players on this team.

Comparing *anyone* to one of the only guys in the league to play past his 40s is a huge stretch any way you slice it.

Why not go further? I mean George Blanda played until he was 48 and Newman is a far better athlete than Blanda and likely spends more time in the gym each week than Blanda would in a season. Hell, if Blanda would play until 48 then Newman should be able to go until he's as least 63.

I'm pretty sure Newman is gonna walk next year. There is really no doubt in my mind.

He's gonna walk into Jerry's office and walk out with a deal and a check,

then he's probably gonna wanna walk to the bank to deposit his record deal.

They put a rule in place here in TX many years ago to stop that. Players can only play 4 years of high school ball no matter how many years they are in high school.

There have been some overzealous fathers that have held their sons back in the 8th grade, thereby giving them a "redshirt season".
