My initial thought after seeing all the injuries this season, is to keep him around for next season, but would consider offers of a 4th or better...

Free's contract. This is hardly a heavy hitting contract.

Now, let's compare, if we gave Martin and Freddy their contracts today, how would Free's contract look? We could cut Free at any point and the hit on our cap wouldn't do a whole lot of damage.

And what question are you asking here? Why would we give Leary a new contract? He's with us until the end of the 2016 season.

Leary is a RFA next year. A second round tender cost 2.3m this year and will go up.

That is probably too much for a backup and it is doubtful anyone gives a 2nd with his knee condition.
The original tender of 1.5m may be the way to go, even if it provides no protection.

I would bring Bern back instead since he can play C.

At those prices someone would sign Leary. 1.5MM for starting OG that has played well in the past, with no compensation required, is something some team would do. I would think they do the second round tender, especially if they expect him to start.

I hope Bern comes back on a decent contract also, he is a quality backup but the question is cost.

Exactly! Whoever said he would be a disaster doesn't have a clue. We are at 4-8. What harm would it do to try him there for a couple games? Only one way to find out.

I don't think it's about him not being able to play but it not being his best position
Every scouting report I read before draft talked about him likely being a better guard than tackle. Much like Martin, he could probably play RT and be ok but can play inside and be really good
There aren't many Larry Allen in the world who can dominate at both

He is going to be a back up next year. He will cost the amount of at least a 2nd round tender. He can probably get a mid round pick back in trade.

Do you think we should trade him in the off season

If you think you would get a second or third rd pick for Leary in this league you are way out of touch good luck with that !

It's tough, 2.5m for a backup OG only is tough. Most people don't see Collins at RT. But we might be best if Leary stay at LG and Collins replaces Free at RT.

But if we tender him at 1.5m because he won't start someone will match with no compensation. He can start in this league so it is probably worth the higher tender.

A backup guard is extremely valuable. I would tender him, and if we got a good offer, I would consider trading him because the team needs a lot of help, a lot more than backup guard.
