It is the same old same old year after year.
A certain number of people get carried away with any sign of good news. A bigger number get carried away with any signs of bad news.
It is encouraging that Showers looks better than he did a year ago. He has some tools but also needed a lot of work. It is nice to know that he seems to have a better grasp of what he needs to do and that be is looking more accurate than a year ago. A few are going to poo poo that no matter what because in their mind the story has already been written on Showers....he wasn't drafted, he isn't a protypical QB with a laser arm so he will never be anything.
The difference between Showers and Moore per se is that Moore was already considered a near finished product mentally but his knock is that he is always going to come up short physically. He can know the offense inside and out, but when you struggle with throwing 10-15 yards downfield it is always going to be an issue. And the fact is, if he was going to try to improve that, he would have built himself up in the weight room. We know about Parcells having an obsession with guys building their leg strength and core....Moore hasn't done any of that. He still looks like the 98 pound weakling he came into the league as. How can you legitimately not work on what your biggest weakness is in 4 years in the league? To me, he hasn't committed to what he needs to do to get better and give himself a chance. It's like Romo on working on one thing each offseason. One year it was the back shoulder throws. One year it was moving his feet in the pocket. He is always trying to work on his weaknesses and get better.
Showers came in with more physically but didn't have the kind of mental training that Moore had and probably wasn't schooled very much on the fundamentals. So the fact that he looks more poised and more accurate should be a good sign. By the same token no one should get ahead of themselves and think he is going to be the backup. He still is a longshot to make this team, probably another year on PS if anything here. I think to an extent this is Moore's last chance...if he doesn't show an ability to at least be a short term #2 he probably isn't back next year.
