Anytime it's reported that some obscure player is shining in OTA's it ends up being a curse because that's usually the only time they ever shine. It's not that hard to shine in OTA's. Amendola was the last obscure player I can remember shining in OTA's and he ended up not making the team.

When hear things about moving an athletic QB that can run to another position those players never develop into solid NFL QBs. If I'm not mistaken the Cowboys had Showers playing a little on special teams during preseason last year.

At this point the main thing you can show off are mechanics, arm strength, and accuracy. Improvement in this regard is good news but quick thinking and pocket presence are what is going to determine his game success and cannot be seen in a glorified pro day.

From Broaddus....

Hearing some whispers from those in the know that through two days of OTAs – Jameill Showers has been the second-best quarterback on the field. In watching him during practice, I thought his accuracy and poise were outstanding in the opportunities he received.

I don't know why but I saw the title of this thread and laughed...

If Prescott is the backup this year, the team's making a big mistake. Prescott needs to be QB3 this season. QB2 next season, or pushed off the roster by whichever QB pick we make in 2017. But let's not have our backup be a guy who needs to be worrying about his footwork and his fundamentals right now. If he demonstrates he can handle a steep learning curve, he can compete next year when he's actually ready to play.

Dak is basically a 5th round pick. We are very far from the point that we consider him our future. IMO he is going to have to be utter gangbusters to stop us from looking very hard at QBs at the top of the draft

even if dak is gangbusters, we need another qb.
dual threat qbs may take a lot more hits.

FWIW, Drew Boylhart (The Huddle Report) absolutely loved Showers last year. Rated him a 1st round talent, if I remember correctly. Absolutely gushed about him, stating he wouldn't hesitate to use a 1st rd pick on him and develop him. After reading his report, I was thrilled that Dallas was able to sign him, and then stunned that he didn't make the roster. Glad to see he's starting to show some of the potential that Drew saw in him.

My bad. It was Brandon Bridge QB South Alabama that he was high on. Called him a 2nd rd talent that he'd take in the 1st rd. Dallas picked him up last year, but I think he opted for the Canadian League. Oh well...

Prescott needs to be challenging for the starter spot by next season, or he's not the guy. IMO.

Cole Beasleys' first time to shine from obscurity as well, and you never heard of them again...oh wait.

I like that Showers has good mobility and gets the ball out rather than taking a sack. I'll wait for the rest of the package to come along - patiently.
