They would turn the 2023 base rate into a signed bonus and factor it into this year (so it would be like a 9.5 million cap hit this year and 10 million next). A really good swing tackle is going to cost that much anyways so money clearly isn't the issue (you'd also get that entire 2nd year salary paid for by moving on from Tyron)
You could still do those things even with Tunsil on a 2 or 3 year deal. I don't expect Waletzco or Smith to play pure tackle by themselves till at least 2024 so a 2 or 3 year rental will immediately improve the team now and won't force you to draft or play someone if there not ready (especially since next years draft class isn't looking that great for tackle)
That’s a good point take Tyron $ to pay Tunsil . As many injuries 77 has had and as serious as this one is it’s absurd to even think of a return ….ever .
The Texans are unlikely to get a 1st for Tunsil.
Many media analysts suggested a 3rd.
I would give up a 2nd.
If they drafted a 2nd round OT...
Year 1 developmental season.
Years 2 to 4 on rookie contract.
Tunsil
Year 1 average 9.5M.
Year 2 average 9.5M.
Essentially one extra year starting for the draft pick.
Tunsil has proven ability.
Allows for dumping Tyron's contract (13.6M) prior to 2023.
The big issue is that Houston incurs a huge cap hit to trade Tunsil.
