Sick of RGIII

I find it incredibly funny that people here are downing Griffin's play, and riding Luck's, when Griffin is coming back from an extremely difficult surgery, and his numbers are comparable to Luck's right now. I haven't seen Luck play this year, and his numbers certainly look better, but his team lost to the Raiders. Maybe the Skins will too, in which case that statement loses some bite. All that said, one can reasonably think, based on many players coming back from an acl, that it will take a couple games to get everything on track. Let's see how Griffin looks after our bye week. At that point, he will show where he stands in the qb ranks, for good (as I expect) or bad (as most posters here wish for).

Washington's bigger problem, IMO, is that their defense was VASTLY over-rated and this year looks extremely old and extremely slow. They're just getting beaten to death. RGIII will likely recover fully physically, and mentally, at some point and start being a lot more dangerous again.

Our pass rush is good--but here's the issue: Why take 5-7 step drops and risk Kerrigan and Orakpo making a play when you can take 3-step drop with corners sitting back 10-12 yards who can't tackle a one-legged geriatric anyway? Against GB, we were getting fantastic pressure before they made that little adjustment and, shockingly, Haslett had no counter. He was clueless. Fletcher looks done--he has been non-existant for 2 games too. But what really bothers me the most is that they are totally and completely unprepared to play. That screams of coaching and planning.

But what I do feel that this does show is that without the threat of the read option, and his running, that RGIII isn't really all that scary a QB from the pocket. He'll put up the flashy numbers by games in because he's having to come from so far behind but he won't really scare you without that run threat that he had.

I can only hope he never gets that running threat ability back but I'm not likely to be that lucky.

I agree to a point--replace read-option with play-action. He is not as good right now without play-action. He is a fantastic play-action QB. I've said this repeatedly and was screaming at the TV for it--they didn't run play action or a bootleg until halfway through the 2nd Q. As far as his pocket-passing ability--jury is still out in my opinion, I don't think he was helped by either the interior offensive line or the play calling in either game. He's still just a 2nd year QB--he is going to have growing pains no matter who he plays for.

The only reason the numbers are similar is because Griffin got his numbers in 'junk' time.

Heck, GB had 2nd stringers in there.

"Show me a QB who runs and I'll show you a loser"- RG3's a quote from RG2 (Robert's dad) this summer

What Robert has failed to do thus far this season is run at all, even when the obvious opportunity presents himself, thusly making himself a 1 dimensional QB. If he wants to be a pocket passer, that is fine, but that also takes several years to reach an elite level, you don't become a star QB from the pocket overnight.

Neither Manning was, Brady wasn't, Rodgers had an awful 2008 after riding the pine for 3 years (Packers went 6-10), Romo sat on the bench for several years before starting, Flacco still really isn't (he is very playoff clutch but nobody would consider him a super elite pocket QB), Rivers sat on the bench for 2 years and never become really elite, Schuab was a bench warmer, Cutler has been up and down, Stafford has been injured, Brees looked awful for a few years and didn't explode as a pocket passer until his 4th season in the NFL.

It is fine if that is Robert's goal, it'll take a little while though. What made him a unique and dynamic QB, what makes him really special, is not only the throwing ability (which he oozes as evidenced by throws on Thanksgiving and other games last year) is his mobility, which right now he is simply choosing not to take advantage of.

There have been multiple instances in both games where he could have picked up a first down with his feet, but chose instead to throw the ball (usually incomplete leading to a punt)

There have been 0 rollouts or bootlegs (both staples of the Shanahan system) and clearly no read option run.

If he isn't healthy enough to do those things, he needs to sit. If there was a conscious decision made by him and the coaching staff that they would go pocket or nothing with him and he wouldn't run at all, well I frankly think that is a big mistake and it'll be a long year in DC

Yes it will. The over hyped, attention ***** will be exposed w/o the gimmicky scheme. You guys had your glory last year and its your 1 good year for a decade. Now, its back to the usual Skins . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and many told you that last year, but you Skins fans didnt want to hear it. Smoke and mirrors only works for so long in this league and the mirrors are broken, and the smoke machine seems to be broken.

Everyone is adding pistol and read option looks. Even Peyton Manning has run plays out of the pistol this year

What the Commanders have done in the first 2 weeks is deliberately take those elements out of the offense and try and have Robert play the same game that statuesque Drew Bledsoe played, which is dumb. It was dumb for Bledsoe who could barely move, would be dumb for Romo (if you just kept him in the pocket and didn't ever roll him out) and is incredibly dumb for Griffin because of the threat he poses just by moving him.

Removing one tool from the tool set that makes it a very special and unique tool set is dumb. Even Andrew Luck has ran the ball more then Griffin thus far this year.

There were no second stringers in the game.

Look its clear the players on the field in the 2nd half of the Eagles and Packers games were guys who would only play in the 4th quarter of the 4th preseason game.

So lets end this meme that RG3 was playing against NFL players in week 1 and 2

Cris Cooley said on his radio show yesterday that they didn't call any bootleg plays because of the 3-4, and how Capers was calling their defense. Calling the bootleg would've left Griffin exposed to the OLB and apparently Kyle doesn't think Griffin can handle that yet. He then went on to say he expects to see it setup with the stretch play against Detroit.

This afternoon I heard an interview with Pierre Garcon, who evaded every question in regards to the offense not running the read option at all the last two weeks. Something doesn't fit here, and of course no one in the organization is going to admit it and give their opposition an even bigger advantage than they already have.

The guys playing in fourth quarters of the fourth preseason game are sitting by the phone hoping a team will call them for a workout.

I clearly saw Clay Matthews and co. still blitzing up the middle late in the game. Was the coverage in the secondary softer, absolutely. But there is a difference between starters not playing as hard because their up by 3 TDs and coaches trotting out guys who aren't NFL caliber. Even Rodgers stayed in the game when I was fully expecting him to be pulled in the third quarter.

Except on Thanksgiving right?

Burying anyone after 2 games is what gets you the 2007 Giants.

It also gets you a bunch of Rams, Cardinals and multiple other sucky teams throughout history, more so than a SB winner...

Rather than look at it like a tool being removed, its more like they went from delving into unprotected sex to practicing safe sex now. Last year was risky even tho it was more fun. Now they have to be safe, because the "risque" scheme last year got the attention ***** hurt.

Not going to say Williams isn't a beast, because he is.

But, physics had a lot to do with that. 78 starts off helping move the big fella. Once he got him moving backwards it was over.

Nevertheless, Williams is a physical specimen.

He may also be the best performing offensive player we've had this season. He did a great job on Matthews, all the pressure came up the middle unfortunately.
