Cheap is a valid bargaining chip. My thing is actual production. Rice may prove me wrong if we signed him, but I'm getting the same Austin vibe.

If Dallas can secure a quality backup (on paper, not made of paper) at the WR position, that would go a long way in not tempting Jerry to drop the 1st pick on a WR rather than the desperately needed DT/DE.

I didn't say I liked the idea of swapping Miles (Rice) for Miles but the Cowboys would need a quality backup in case one of the starters goes down. :D

Nothing against Harris or Beasley and but neither are starting material. Personally, I think Miles takes the pay cut and stays on as a backup insurance policy.
I don't know how much we could depend on Rice as a quality backup.

Agreed about Harris and Beasley, but they have stepped up when called upon. I have more faith in them filling in and solidly contributing week-to-week while Dez and/or Williams are out than Rice.

I don't think even Jerry will overlook defensive need in the first round this May. I've been wrong before though.

The contract would have to be reasonable so Dallas can cut him if he underperforms. If Dez or Williams were to go down for an extended period the passing game would be severely compromised.

Why can't we give Twill and Beasley a full season as starters and see how it goes?

I would agree to Rice getting a one-year contract and somewhat prove his dependability for an extension. Two or more years would make me gag.

So have I. I'm counting on two day-one defensive starters this draft.
When did Jones negotiate another first round pick? It's still a day one/1st round, day two/2nd & 3rd round, and day three/4th through 7th round format right?? Come on! Spill!:p

Obviously. :p

He should be looked at as strictly insurance if Austin decides not to take a pay cut and is released.

I'm not saying he's the best option out there, but considering we're low on cap space, a contract based on incentives could work with the little room we may have.

Keeping Austin is all about the money, he'd be no different.

I like the idea of another big WR to team with or spell Dez.

I'd say we need to spend just about every draft pick we have on defense this year.
I think we'd be better off letting Miles go and getting a cheap WR3/WR2 from free agency.

no

if we are able to finagle FA money, our targets should be:

1. Jarius Byrd (solve the FS problem)
2. Livnal Joseph > Henry Melton

there should be a pretty good WR available in rd 4 this year that can function as a #3

Day-one meaning the first time they step on the field they start. ;):p

6ft5in down the field jump ball WR. If you bring him in for a Training Camp at the Vet Min.he could catch a TD.

But now Garrett is concentrating on Defense....lol

The problem is Beasly cant play the outside, so if Dez or Twill get hurt then we are screwed if all we got is Beasly.

We need another WR that can play on the outside.

Wherever he goes (won't be here), it will have to be on a one year, minimum deal.
